Bike weekend isn't just about the biking. It's also about fun and games for the skaters/cyclists, dock and taco time for the parents, and a chance to watch an elk take a dip in Lake Waskesiu. Thanks to everyone who helped make this weekend happen.

Riders at the ready before doing the long ride of Speed Skating Saskatchewan bike weekend. A quick pivot from Waskesiu to Christopher lake for the event went super well with the projected raining weather holding off until Sunday.

CAMP HIGHLIGHTS
• Elite Coaching: Train under the guidance of Fred Dery and former Canadian Olympic skaters.
• Comprehensive Training: Every day there will be two on-ice, two drylands, and one workshop.

AGE REQUIREMENTS
• The camp is for skaters Child 8, 9, 10, Youth, Neo-Junior, Junior (Age as of June 30, 2026):
• Saskatoon club skaters: If you are under 8, but in Group 2, you can register.

Under the I for “Yes, I want to volunteer for BINGO!!”

At around $100/shift, Bingo volunteering is one of the fastest ways to make bank for your speed skating fees💰!!

Shifts are available for July and August! Imagine, walking into day 1 of the speed skating season with an account already full of money!

Melvin Jones Fellowship
Recipient: Jason Coutu

This recognition was not from SLSSC. It was from the Saskatoon Millennium Lions Club - a huge partner and supporter of the SLSSC. This Fellowship recognition is rarely given to a non Lions Club member - meaning it is a huge honour for Jason to receive it!

A Melvin Jones Fellowship is one of the highest honours in Lions Clubs International. It was made possible through a $1,000 USD donation made in Jason’s honour on behalf of the Saskatoon Millennium Lions Club. This donation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation supports sight programs, youth initiatives, disaster relief, and humanitarian causes worldwide. Here in Saskatchewan, LCIF has funded projects related to flooding, fire evacuations, accessible playgrounds, tree planting, food programs, and more.

The Fellowship recognizes individuals such as Jason who demonstrate outstanding humanitarian service — people whose actions reflect the spirit of Melvin Jones himself.
Jason was honoured with this award as someone who has gone above and beyond in service to both the Lions and the Saskatoon community.

Jason Coutu’s years of volunteerism, his innovation in creating and improving the Lion’s dispatch system, his willingness to help from anywhere in the country, his mentorship, and his technical support to the Saskatoon district — all at no cost — exemplify the very best of what it means to serve.

On behalf of the Saskatoon Millennium Lions Club, it was with great pleasure to present Jason with a Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest recognition their organization can bestow.

The Bicentennial Trophy
Recipient: The Makowsky Family

Awarding this trophy to the Makowsky Family fills our club with mixed emotions🥲

The Bicentennial Trophy is awarded to long standing club volunteers who have contributed above and beyond the call of duty. The Makowsky Family have been prominent, dedicated, and selfless volunteers with our club for more than a decade. From when their kids were tiny in the Learn to Skate program, up to now when their kids are graduating and venturing out into the world.

Rob has been the backbone of the club’s volunteers - organizing countless mat moves, installing dots and lines into the ice surfaces, being an official starter at official meets and club practices, plus being an active board member - including a term as President.

Kenzie has always played an integral role in the club as a Group Manager, handling key roles in our clubs meets, and sharing our club’s activities and highlights through our social media.

This family will truly be missed! We are thankful we can honour them with this award!
