World's Oldest Basketball Court

Lyman Archibald introduced the game of basketball to Saint Stephen near the turn of the century. The first game was played on October 17, 1893.
The original basketball court floor still exists in the former St. Stephen YMCA building on King Street.

During the Canada Basketball induction ceremony, David Ganong announced some amazing news related to our funding that we want to share with everyone.
“Frank McKenna and Bob Quartermain are each donating $250,000 with the objective of encouraging others to donate as well. In addition, New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt announced a provincial contribution of $431,000, which is being matched by the federal government. We have a further commitment of more than $200,000 from other donors, bringing us to a total of more than $1.7 million raised in the month of August alone.”
We are on our way to the next steps of the project, with the next round of engineering and design work beginning in the fall!

We are focused on preserving the so generations to come know basketball is part of their history. History that with every dribble, every shot, every block, they become a part of. That's why this day of means so much to us. We need to give a MASSIVE thank you to Southwest Regional Basketball Association and Basketball New Brunswick for always putting together such an amazing day for the next generation of legends. We're calling this year's a huge success!
