Hi my name is Ryan Jacobi. I Recently moved here to Welland from St. Catharines after more than 9 years of bad struggles, neighbor's and health issues. I have been working hard attending CBT, Mindfullness, DBT and small business courses to better my self. I believe I have a lot of insight in mental illness, addiction and homelessness issues.
I am in the process of stepping up my small business. I am doing so on a shoestring budget but plan on hiring local disadvantaged persons with the opportunity to work in a makers/studio workshop. I have been running my small fly tying business for 20+ years.(Since 2001 officially) I started tying flies, streamers and jigs when I designed and fabricated my first fly vise and tying tools in 1994 as a Grade 9 Machine shop intro project and have been involved in the art since.
I have been supplying Peter's Tackle in St. Catharines with streamers and flies for local waters, mainly Pt. Dalhousie and the Niagara River as well as caterers to customer's all over the world for both fresh and saltwater fish species for over 27 years. I have taught fly tying courses for multiple fly and tackle shops in Southern Ontario as well as have had the honor of being a international recognized fly tyer at the Canadian Fly Tying Forum tying besides the one and only Ian Collin James, inventor of Ian's Brass Ass, lol.
I am currently expanding into making one of a kind fly/jig and fishing lure displays to cater to the world wide angling community. I plan on joing the local Chamber Of Commerce to be more involved in making downtown a destination place for Artisan and unique makers. Welland needs a tackle/fly shop and that is why I moved here.
I see lots of opportunities for downtown to thrive again and attract other like minded entrepreneurs to set up shop and hire locals. I have a very unique business model that is merit based not based on seniority. It is wages based on work ethic and community involvement i.e. time spent cleaning up waterways, volunteering for local weekend fishing competitions and more.
If anyone is interested in giving me positive input please feel free to DM. We as a community need to give opportunities for employment for those who want to better their lives. I am currently looking for a makers/studio/shop/living business location in the downtown area. I would also like to include a store front in this working living space as to showcase local lure makers, fly tyers, jig tyers and artists a place to sell their wares and teach courses . Please those who are interested PM me with your ideas. Constructive criticism is welcome. Thank you to all those who want to see Welland and the Niagara region thrive as never before.
I hope that there are more like minded people who would like to be part of the change I wish to lead by.
