La course locale se déroulera de 9 h à midi. ....

46 years ago today was the most inspirational day of Terry Fox's life. Here is a photo of Terry alongside 10 year old Greg Scott - who he spent the day with in Terrace Bay, Ontario. Greg had the same type of cancer as Terry and gave Terry a needed boost of inspiration in the final few days of his Marathon of Hope. Greg passed away shortly after Terry.

The thing about Terry Fox that stays with you is not the distance. It is the daily decision. Every morning for 143 days, Terry Fox woke up, strapped on a prosthetic leg that did not fit properly, and ran a marathon. Not a short run. A full marathon. Every single day. He had lost his leg to osteosarcoma at 18. He had spent time in cancer wards watching children and elderly patients suffer together, and he had decided that the randomness and the suffering were unacceptable and that someone had to do something dramatic enough to make people pay attention to cancer research funding. He chose to run across Canada. He dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic at St. Johns, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 and started running west. The early weeks attracted almost no coverage. Drivers sometimes did not even slow down as they passed him on the Trans-Canada. But momentum built. By Ontario, television crews were following him. By the time he reached the outskirts of Thunder Bay in September, hundreds of thousands of Canadians were watching. On September 1, 1980, with chest pain that had worsened for days, he was driven to a hospital. The cancer had spread to his lungs. The run was over at 5,373 kilometres, roughly halfway across the country. He had raised 24 million dollars. He died ten months later at 22. Canada has run for him every year since. The Terry Fox Run now takes place in over 9,000 communities in more than 60 countries. Over 800 million dollars has been raised in his name for cancer research. He finished the run. It just took the rest of us to do it.
