đŠ Maybe too much ice cream this summer.
Maybe exactly the right amount.
We have a thing in our house where summer means hitting up our favourite spots and maybe trying some new ones.
Itâs not a fitness strategy, ha. Itâs just something we genuinely enjoy doing.
And I spent zero time feeling guilty about it.
Hereâs what Iâve seen after years of coaching parents around food: the ones who beat themselves up for the ice cream are usually the same ones who canât stay consistent the rest of the year either.
The guilt does more damage than the ice cream ever would.
Sustainable nutrition isnât about perfect choices. Itâs about not letting the imperfect ones spiral into something bigger.
You had a summer. Good. Septemberâs here. Also good.
Neither one cancels the other out.
What was your favourite indulgence this summer? No judgment, just curious đ

The evening walks we actually did this summer taught me more than the ones we skipped.
We planned more. We got fewer. And halfway through July, I stopped feeling bad about it.
Because the ones we did get? Showed me something different.
No reps to count. No time to beat. Just moving, talking, actually being there.
I hear from parents all the time who feel like they failed at fitness this summer. Gym didnât happen. Eating got off track. Numbers werenât what they planned.
But theyâre forgetting about the bike rides.
The walks.
The chasing kids around the yard.
The swimming.
Movement doesnât have to look like a workout to count as one.
If youâre the kind of person who feels like you blew it this summer because it didnât match the plan, I want you to think about what actually happened when you werenât looking.
Whatâs one way you moved this summer that you wouldnât normally put in the âfitnessâ category? Drop itđ

Last Friday I finally took a breath.
Meditation for the first time in a while. Coffee with a good friend. No agenda, no rushing.
Itâs funny how you donât realize how much you needed something until youâre actually in it.
Fall is going to be busy. I know that. Iâve got a plan, and I also know the plan will change, and Iâve made peace with both of those things.
Thatâs honestly what Iâd want anyone heading into a full fall season to hear: you donât need to have it all figured out before September. You just need enough of a plan to start moving.
The rest gets clearer as you go.
What does a reset look like for you before the fall rush? đ

Sheâs growing up faster than I expected.
The last few weeks have been a mix of squeezing in the last bits of summer with my family before the school season starts, and I keep catching myself noticing the small things.
The way she handles something new. The questions she asks. The confidence that wasnât there a year ago. Iâm doing my best to be present for it. Not just the big moments, because I know the big moments are made of small ones.
Honestly, itâs part of why I stay consistent with my own health. Not for the workouts. Not for the numbers. Because sheâs watching. And I want her to see that taking care of yourself isnât something you do when life slows down.
Itâs something you do because life never slows down. Thatâs worth showing her.

Hectic weeks are when nutrition plans usually fall apart first.
School prep, shifting schedules, a to-do list that keeps getting longer... and suddenly the meals you had figured out in July donât look anything like whatâs actually happening.
This was a few weeks ago. This week looks a lot different, lol.
Hereâs what I keep coming back to in weeks like this: a meal that actually happened beats the perfect meal you didnât have time for. Every single time.
Give yourself permission to eat like a real person with a real life. The structure comes back. It always does.
Whatâs your go-to meal when life gets chaotic? Drop it below đ

Weâve still got a few weeks of this weather and we are not wasting them.
Squeezing in a few last summer activities before school kicks in, and our annual fall hike at Wascana Trails is already on the calendar.
Itâs one of those things that started small and turned into something we look forward to every year. Less âworkout,â more âthis is just what we do.â
Thatâs actually the kind of movement that sticks long-term. Not the stuff you force. The stuff that becomes part of the rhythm.
If youâre looking for a reason to get outside before the season closes... this is it. The trails arenât going anywhere, but the weather does for a bit ha.
Whatâs on your outdoor bucket list before winter officially takes over? đ

My wife and I had coffee in the mountains the other week.
Crisp air. No agenda. Just the two of us actually sitting still for a minute.
I donât know when the last time was we did something like that without a schedule, or a phone pulling one of us away.
It didnât cost much. It didnât take long. But itâs the thing I keep coming back to this week.
Because itâs coming. The school rush. Sports practice. Band Practice. The calendar filling back up like it always does.
But weâre not there yet.
There are still a few weekends left before September gets a little crazy.
Use them. Do the thing you keep saying youâll get to. Take the person you keep meaning to slow down with.
Your fitness doesnât disappear when fall hits, but these loose, unhurried summer days do.
What are you squeezing in before the fall rush? đ

Iâve eaten in Thailand. đčđ đ„
Real, proper Thai food, in Thailand.
And last week a little restaurant in Medicine Hat called Pock Pock, made a Khao Soi that had my friend and I completely speechless. (You need to check this place out if you are passing through itâs worth the stop)
The owner and her sister were so welcoming, so proud of what they were putting on the table, and rightfully so. It was the best bowl of my life. (Iâm serious)
No tracking. No macros. No âshould I?â
Just food, presence, and one of those meals youâll still be thinking about a week later.
This is what a healthy relationship with food actually looks like.
You can care deeply about your nutrition AND eat an extraordinary bowl of noodles and call it a perfect evening.
Both things are true. Donât let anyone convince you otherwise.
