AAIP Aug 14–19, 2026: Alberta invites 767 candidates — Opportunity Stream leads; healthcare draw targeted

Alberta’s Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) held two draws between August 14 and 19, 2026, issuing a total of 767 invitations to apply for provincial nomination. On August 14 the Alberta Opportunity Stream issued 743 invitations (minimum score 58). On August 19 a Dedicated Health Care Pathway (non‑Express Entry) draw issued 24 invitations (minimum score 60).

These rounds bring Alberta’s total to 71 provincial immigration draws and at least 11,982 invitations issued so far in 2026 (figures current to August 25). The August 19 healthcare draw—Alberta’s eighth healthcare‑targeted selection this year—was the smallest healthcare draw by invitation count so far in 2026, aligning with Alberta’s 2026 priorities that also include construction, technology and manufacturing.

Alberta increased its 2026 AAIP allocation to 6,603 nomination spaces (up from 6,403). As of August 25, the province had issued 4,560 nominations, leaving 2,043 slots remaining. Stream allocations and nominations issued include:
- Alberta Opportunity Stream: 3,562 allocation; 2,551 issued; 1,011 remaining
- Rural Renewal Stream: 1,057; 628; 429

Alberta also reports 36,255 worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) profiles in its pool (August 25), with about 62.5% — 22,648 — in the Alberta Opportunity Stream. There were 1,335 nomination applications awaiting final decisions across streams, with specific backlogs such as Opportunity Stream (530), Rural Renewal (94), Accelerated Tech (189), and others. Entrepreneur streams follow a separate process and are not counted in the WEOI pool.

MPNP invites 741 candidates on Aug. 27 — 600 for trades & transport (Major Group 72) with 731 cutoff

Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 741 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) on August 27, targeting a wide range of occupations with a strong focus on trades and transportation. Invited candidates have up to 60 days to submit a complete provincial nomination application to the MPNP.

Draw breakdown: 600 invitations for occupations under NOC Major Group 72 (technical trades and transport officers/controllers) with a cutoff score of 731; 62 invitations for specific healthcare and transport occupations (including bus drivers and transit operators, NOC 73301, and general practitioners/family physicians, NOC 31102); 21 French‑speaking candidates selected based on French as their primary language plus valid French test results; and 58 candidates invited through strategic recruitment initiatives or the now‑expired Temporary Public Policy (TPP). Occupation‑specific selections represented 89.3% of the draw, recruitment-initiative invites about 7.8%, and francophone selections about 2.8%.

Of the 741 invited, 150 candidates declared a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code in their Expression of Interest (EOI). Within the 58 strategic invitations, Employer Services accounted for 28 LAAs, Francophone Community 16, Regional Community 7, Ethnocultural Community 4, and TPP 3 — Employer Services made up about 48.3% of that subgroup.

Why this matters: invited candidates who become provincial nominees can request work‑permit support letters to apply to the federal government for a work permit. After a provincial nominee files their permanent residence application, they may be eligible to apply for a bridging open work permit (BOWP). IRCC removes grandparents’ marriage question from CIT-0001 — what applicants need to know

IRCC has removed the request for an applicant’s grandparents’ marriage details from the CIT-0001 application for proof of Canadian citizenship. The department briefly added a dedicated marriage field on August 25, then removed the field and the matching instruction line within 48 hours; no public announcement was made.

What changed: the current CIT-0001 form and instruction files no longer ask for grandparents’ marriage date/place. Two versions of the form carry the same footer (CIT 0001 (08-2026) E — if you downloaded the form on August 25 or 26 you likely have the earlier version that still shows the marriage fields). Check Section 9 (page 5) under Parent A and Parent B of Parent 1 for a “date and place of marriage” field, and page 13 for the matching instruction line, to confirm which version you hold. Submitting the earlier form will not cause a return, but it’s best to download a fresh copy before filing.

Why it matters: IRCC can still request grandparents’ marriage information during processing. The document checklist (CIT-0014) still states IRCC “may ask you for further information or documents when processing your application.” Marriage records often link names across generations — for example, a grandmother’s marriage certificate can explain a maiden name versus a married surname and keep the chain of identity intact. This can be decisive where citizenship is claimed through a female ancestor.

If your line runs through a grandmother who married before January 1, 1947, her marriage may affect whether British subject status (and thus Canadian citizenship by descent) passed to your parent; subsection 11(2) of the Citizenship Act covers restoration routes in these circumstances.

Practical impact: keep relevant marriage certificates in your file. Section 8 of the form still asks for parents’ marriage details and Section 12 asks applicants born before 1950 about marriages before 1947. If you’ve already applied and did not include grandparents’ marriage details on CIT-0001, you should not be penalized — IRCC may contact you later if it needs more information. The form requires applicants to provide the fullest and most accurate information about parents and grandparents; missing details can delay assessment. Processing time for proof of citizenship is about 25 months at the time of writing, so a later document request can add months to your file. Keep your contact details current per the declaration in Section 16.

If your claim runs through a grandparent, especially a grandmother, include her marriage record where possible to avoid name-chain gaps. Use an extra sheet and reference the question if you need more space.
