San Juan Bronco Basketball

In order to properly respond to questions/comments and to be entirely transparent, I feel I need to provide an additional statement.

On Wednesday, November 30th, I was let go as the head basketball coach. In hopes to not allow this to disrupt the players and all their hard work I agreed to a positive, unified parting message. I do not feel I personally know the reason I was let go. There was provided to me a list of complaints but they were not able to share with me who provided the complaints. The complaints, at least from my biased perspective, seemed either obviously false, frivolous in nature or approved by the school administration in advance. I can say I gave it everything I had over the past 7 months to create a healthy, inspiring and successful basketball program not only for this year but for years to come. I believe these players have everything it takes to win a state championship this year and every year going forward. Having said that, I take full responsibility for failing to inspire those involved to believe in me and what we were trying to accomplish. I will be forever grateful for the one game I was able to coach against Moab. That will always be a fun memory for me. I have no hard feelings for anyone that’s been involved in this process and wish them each the best. I hope we can all agree at this point the best thing now is for us to all unify behind the new coaching staff and these incredible players. I love them and want the very best for them. I will always be willing to help wherever I can. Let’s go Broncos! We can do it!

Please let me know as soon as possible any players that have given a significant effort towards shots and dribbles and how many days they have as soon as possible so we can recognize them tonight during Bronco Night.

Here is the official roster of your San Juan Highschool Basketball Team. They are going to be fun to watch! Give them each a high five when you see them on the streets!

One of the most fun nights of the year is this Saturday at 6:30pm at the highschool! Bronco Night!! Come join us!

Update: Tryouts (Freshman and Sophomores) and Regular basketball practice for the C-team has been slightly updated from what was originally posted.

~November 7th and 8th 7-9pm (Monday and Tuesday): official mandatory practice for all Freshman and non football players from the other highschool grades interested in playing basketball.

~November 9th and 10th 7-9pm (Wednesday and Thursday): practice, open gym, scrimmage to anyone interested. All football players have a banquet and then travel for state game so for those days they are excused.

November 14th (Monday): Freshman and Sophomore tryouts in the afternoon 5:30-7:30pm at the Middle School.

November 14th 3:30-5:30pm (Monday): Junior and Senior tryouts at the Highschool. We will post final 23 player roster that night by midnight.

November 15th (Tuesday): Official mandatory practice. Varsity and JV teams at the highschool (this day and going forward in accordance with the boy/girl schedule) and C-team at the middle school 5:30-7:30pm (this day and going forward will always be same time/place)

November 16th (Wednesday): first games (Varsity, JV and C-teams) in Piute. Bus leaves at 8am.

A big shout out to the Blanding 5th grade class! These kids are extremely committed to basketball. It’s amazing and inspiring. The following 5th grade kids completed 20,000 shots since March. That’s roughly 200 days. Double the 100 day challenge extended to everyone. They have an amazing travel coach in Jimmy Johnson that has really inspired them!
