Jasper Skyline. β€οΈποΈ
I've wanted to do this trail for probably six years, so when we finally headed out I was so excited I almost peed my pants. π
I love my mountain adventures. Tim says he can actually see the tension leave my body as we get closer to the mountains. My head clears, everything else gets quiet, and there is just me and the experience ahead.
Skyline was everything I hoped it would be.
Tim joined Kristy and me for the first 10 km, and then the two of us continued on with everything we needed for two days on our backs.
We ran when we could. We hiked when we wanted. We stopped for views, took an hour for lunch, watched marmots play, admired flowers and collected pretty rocks. π We saw glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and endless mountain views. We met other hikers at camp, swapped stories and gear talk, and I fell asleep beside a pond listening to a waterfall.
Day 2 brought rain and mud, so we adjusted. We ran less, hiked more and took our time where footing mattered. Then we climbed the Notchβ2 km of UP, shale, rocks, boulders, laughing, catching our breath and repeatedly discovering that what was around the next corner was...more up. π
48.31 km and 1,697 m of elevation over two days.
But what I loved most about fastpacking wasn't the numbers.
We got to do everything.
Run. Hike. Explore. Sleep outside. Push ourselves. Slow down. Get muddy. Laugh. Meet people. Watch wildlife. Stop and enjoy where we were.
And I got to share it with Kristy, who walked into my store less than two years ago and started running. From her first 5K to this. We are alike in all the right ways and different in all the right waysβand apparently we've decided this needs to happen every year.
Because about 15 km into Day 2, we were already planning the next one. π
We finished tired, happy, ready for clean clothes, burgers and a beer at Jasper Breweryβand completely high and contented from the whole experience.
This is what I want to still be doing long after I retire.
More mountains. More adventures. More experiences.
And yes...we're already planning the next one. β€οΈποΈ
More photos will be in the comments.
