Camp Week 9 is officially a wrap.

We finished Everyday Confidence week with lunch at grounds & greens cafe in Fort Langley, where the kids got to practice the kind of everyday skills that actually build confidence: reading a menu, making a decision, asking questions, speaking clearly, ordering for themselves and realizing they can handle things that might once have felt intimidating.

Confidence is built through experiences like this. Small moments of independence, trying something new, using your voice and discovering, “I can do this.”

A huge thank you to grounds & greens cafe for being so patient, welcoming and supportive with our group. It was such a great way to end a week focused on building confidence through real-life experiences.

This week also marked a big milestone for our camp team: our summer leaders have officially completed their eight-week internships.

Over those eight weeks, they have grown so much in confidence, leadership, independence, problem-solving and their ability to connect with kids. They’ve learned how to lead groups, adapt when plans change, support big feelings and build genuine connections with kids.

We were also so happy to welcome Diana this summer as our new clinical camp leader, bringing another layer of support and clinical perspective to the Resilient Kids program.

Nine weeks down.

One more week of summer adventures to go.

Next week is a special final week as we have returning campers, returning staff, and our plan is to make some lasting memories!

Tonight’s SUP yoga class was… magical.

I was talking with a friend today about the way yoga has evolved in the West. Puppy yoga. SUP yoga. Children’s play-based yoga. And it got me thinking about where accessibility, creativity and tradition all meet.

My own practice has changed so much over the years.

I started with almost exclusively hot yoga. I loved the heat, the intensity, the physical challenge. I genuinely hated traditional room-temperature yoga. Then, as I went deeper into the practice, especially meditation, my understanding of yoga started to expand.

The physical practice became less of the whole thing and more of a doorway into something much bigger.

And lately I keep coming back to Lila, the yogic idea of divine play.

I think play can be a doorway too.

Sometimes it’s a paddleboard on a lake. Sometimes it’s puppies. Sometimes it’s children laughing through a yoga-inspired game. These things may not look like the most traditional entry point into yoga, but they can invite people into movement, breath, presence, connection and curiosity.

And maybe, for some people, that first joyful experience is what makes them want to go deeper.

Tonight, floating on the water as the sun went down, moving and breathing and laughing together, I was reminded how much my own idea of yoga has changed.

There are so many ways to find your way to the practice.

Sometimes the way in is through play.

National Dog Day seems like the perfect day to announce our next Rescue Puppy Yoga fundraiser.

Join us to get Downward for the Dogs with 10–12-week-old mastiff mix puppies from Snow Dog Society. Yes, actual puppies. Yes, they may climb on you. No, we cannot guarantee you won’t fall in love.

This special Rescue Puppy Yoga class is open to ages 13+ and 100% of proceeds go directly to Snow Dog Society to support their rescue work.

The puppies will also be available for adoption, so if you’re not joining us for yoga, you can still come meet them at our Adoption Meet & Greet from 12:30–1:30 pm.

Come for the yoga. Stay for the puppy cuddles. Maybe leave having met your new best friend.

Happy National Dog Day.

Happy National Dog Day to the dogs who make our lives better simply by being in them!

Dogs can be pretty incredible for our mental health too. They get us outside, give our days routine, offer companionship, reduce loneliness, encourage connection, and somehow seem to know when we need them most. Sometimes the simple act of having a warm body beside you or a reason to get up and go for a walk can make a hard day feel a little more manageable.

At RVN, dogs have become a special part of our community through Rescue Puppy Yoga. We have had the privilege of cuddling a whole lot of puppies, supporting local rescues, helping dogs meet potential families, and raising thousands of dollars for rescue organizations along the way.

And while puppies are adorable, rescue is about so much more than the cute stage. Adopt when you can. Foster if you have the space. Spay and neuter your pets. Support ethical rescues. Donate when you’re able. And remember that bringing a dog home is a commitment for their entire life.

To our own rescue dogs, the puppies who have rolled across our yoga mats, and every dog still waiting for their person: Happy National Dog Day.

They take care of us in so many ways. The least we can do is take care of them.

Ps. This puppy is Ivy, who is currently still available for adoption through Snow Dog Society

We’re disappointed, Port Moody.

**edit: next rescue puppy yoga class is August 30! Register at www.rvnwellness.com**

What should have been a joyful community event supporting rescue puppies somehow turned into repeated questions about whether RVN Wellness was doing something wrong. And since then, the explanation for the City’s concerns seems to keep changing.

First, we were questioned about whether rescue puppy yoga was permitted under our business licence.

Then we were told the concern originated because someone was unsure whether we had paid to participate in Car Free Day. We had.

Then the conversation shifted to insurance, including concern about what would happen if one of the rescue puppies somehow “turned vicious.”

Then there was concern about the line of people outside our studio blocking part of the sidewalk, during Car Free Day, when the entire event was designed around streets and public spaces being filled with people.

Meanwhile, the City has now confirmed that rescue puppy yoga is completely permitted under our existing business licence.

At some point, it starts to feel less like addressing a legitimate bylaw concern and more like searching for a problem.

Our rescue puppy events exist for one reason: to help animals. RVN donates the space, our instructors volunteer their time, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to rescue organizations. We’ve raised more than $7,000 for animal rescue through these events.

We love Port Moody. This is our community too. That’s exactly why this has been so disappointing.

Small businesses should be able to expect consistency, transparency and a reasonable approach from their City. If there was a legitimate concern, tell us what it was. But when the explanation keeps changing after each concern is answered, we’re left with more questions than answers.

Thank you to the Tri-Cities Dispatch for asking some of those questions too.

Fall registration is now open for Resilient Kids and Resilient Teens.

Resilience isn’t something kids either have or don’t have. It’s something they can build.

Our yoga inspired play therapy programs give children and teens space to move, play, talk, connect and practice the skills that help them navigate real life: confidence, emotional regulation, friendships, boundaries, using their voice and moving through hard things.

Classes are led by a therapist and children’s yoga instructor and combine movement, mindfulness, creative play and meaningful conversation. Each class is built around a different intention, with a crystal chosen to align with that theme for participants to take home.
