Here are 8 ways to walk away from the fight.
1. Notice how much it hurts.
Before trying to stop judging, notice what it feels like to inhabit a judging mind. Tight. Contracted. Agitated. Judgment is painful for the one doing it.
2. See a problem without making someone the problem.
You can recognize that a behaviour is harmful, unkind or unwise without turning it into a fixed idea about who someone isâincluding yourself.
3. Remember causes and conditions.
Behaviour comes from history, fear, habit, and circumstance. This doesnât excuse harmâit helps us understand it more clearly.
4. Watch the mind make âa person.â
âSheâs selfish.â âHeâs an asshole.â âIâm terrible.â A moment becomes an identity. Notice the shift.
5. Feel whatâs underneath.
Before the story, thereâs usually something simpler: hurt, fear, embarrassment, irritation. Stay with that.
6. Practice mettÄ.
Not liking everythingâjust remembering: this person, like me, wants to be happy and struggles.
7. Notice the need to be right.
Judgment often protects identity: Iâm right, theyâre wrong, Iâm not like that. See the tightening.
8. Zoom out.
Include everything: body, thoughts, sounds, situation. Judgment becomes just one passing event in a much larger field.
Judgment loses some of its power when we can see it as something the mind is doing, rather than the truth.
We can notice when the mind goes to warâand not follow it in.

Want to learn how to actually do this? Join us for free meditation every Wednesday at 7 pm ET, in person or online. Everyone is welcome. PM for the Zoom link.

Did you know you have a built-in drainage system responsible for your daily energy, mental clarity, and immune health?
Itâs your lymphatic system. Think of it as your body's cellular filtration networkâand a foundational branch of your immune defense.
When fluid circulation becomes stagnant, cellular waste and debris get trapped in your tissues, creating chronic, silent inflammation.
For women in midlife, this is a major tipping point. Chronic inflammation can confuse a highly sensitive immune system, causing it to misfire and attack its own healthy tissuesâa major root trigger for autoimmune conditions.
If you have been feeling heavy, sluggish, dealing with stubborn brain fog, or navigating autoimmune flare-ups, your body is asking for a reset.
Join Arlene this Saturday, Aug 22, for an empowering, hands-on workshop.
Learn simple, everyday practicesâincluding gentle movement and self-massageâdesigned to revitalize your system, encourage healthy flow, and help you feel instantly lighter.
Spaces are limited! $40 standard or $32 for Stream members (HST included)

Curiosity is medicine.
We bind ourselves in judgement and conclusions.
When you notice your mind getting rigid and resistant, question your way back to whatâs here now.
You donât need an answer. The questioning liberates.

If your mind is always trying to fix, plan, anticipate and manage what happens next, this is for you.
Join us this Sunday morning for Breathing Like a Buddha â a relaxed morning exploring what happens when we loosen our need to control things and invite more ease into our lives.
Weâll begin with brief, gentle movement to arrive in the body, before shifting into guided breath meditation, followed by a Dharma teaching, discussion, and reflection.
Weâll explore the difference between holding ourselves together and allowing ourselves to be heldânoticing the subtle ways we manage experience by tightening, reaching, resisting, or trying to make something happen, and experimenting instead with softening, giving space, and letting the body and breath find their own ease.
Sunday at 10am ET (Toronto/NY)
In person at the studio or online over Zoom.
PM to save a spot or find details at https://gentlydownthestream.ca/breathing-like-a-buddha-aug-16/
