Bears are in town and are actively seeking out plum and apple trees. They have entered their Hyperphagia time, where they will eat 20 or more hours a day to build fat stores!
What can you do? Pick the fruit off of your trees and off the ground. Fruit trees are super full this year, and if you are unable to pick your fruit, ask a neighbour or two to help. Several people in town have already been sharing their harvest, and this is a great way to manage food sources and keep our community and wildlife safe.
Be extra diligent with garbage, garbage bins, and other attractants that can keep the bears coming back at risk of injury and habituation.
