Trent Univ Judo Club at Athletics Centre

In honor of and with deep gratitude for Sensei Paul Brown(the first from the left in picture) who founded Peterborough Hatash*ta Judo Club-very first Judo club ever in Peterborough( I call him the father of Judo in Ptbo) I was so lucky to find him in Peterborough 42 years ago at YMCA where I continued my Judo training under his guidance. Although I began my Judo at Kodokan in Tokyo earlier while I was a univ student there, it was only after I joined his Dojo that I began to develop as a mature student. He was not only a great Judoka but also a man of character treating everybody equally with respect and dignity so much so that we were all friends(nakama in Japanese). I am forever grateful to him and his wonderful family I got to know over the years. Arigato gozaimasu, Sensei Paul Brown!

3rd Annual Hatash*ta Open was held yesterday at Healthy Planet Arena in Peterborough. Congrats to Kaela(Gold), Nathaniel, Isaac(Bronze), Holden, Allen(Gold winning all by Ippon) and Will. They all demonstrated best fighting spirit, courage(they all fought for Ippon win or lose) and mutual respect, best manner and gentleness all day long. We have gained a valuable experience win or lose. Thank you Hatash*ta Judo Club for hosting such a successful event. We are lucky to have a great club like yours here in Peterborough. Thank you also for all the volunteers and officials who gathered from across Ontario. Arigato. Our summer session starts on July 6 for Sr and July 7 for Jr. Please come join us . Congrats to Kaela for her promotion to Gokyu. She has met all her requirements to pass her test so successfully. At her early stage of starting Judo here, she had expressed the desire to compete in a tournament. She is now qualified to compete and is set to do so on June 20th at Hatash*ta Open here in Peterborough. She is training hard but with lots of smiles. Good luck Kaela!

I have attended this year's first Grading Preparation Clinic which was held on the weekend at Ajax Budokan. There was some new modification in the Judo Canada Syllubus. We all enjoyed the weekend activities(clinic on Sat & Kata Exemption on Sunday). The Grading will take place on June 6. Best of luck to all candidates!!! Our Spring Session starts tonight(May4-June26 for Adult and May 5-June 25 for Junior). Please join us. Registration closes soon. Let's have fun!

Congrats to Che! He won a bronze medal today at Tora! He competed in Veteran Newaza. Yesterday his son Takeo won Gold and today it was his dad on the podium. We are so so proud of your family's dedication to Judo and ongoing support of our club. You are literally Judo Sh**un!

Congrats to GoldenTakeo! Takeo competed in U18 and won all fights by Ippon yesterday at Tora Annual Shiai held in Brampton. There were over 400 competitors from across Ontario. His next competition is Canadian National Championship which will be held from 5/14 to 5/17 in Calgary. Go Takeo go! Go Team Ontario go!

Congrats to Takeo! He won a bronze medal(U18) yesterday at the Eastern Canadian Championship being held this weekend in Edmundston, New Brunswick. We are so proud of your achievement, Takeo!
