South Okanagan Dog Activities Association - SODAA

Dear SODAA members and community,

The Board of the South Okanagan Dog Activities Association (SODAA) has voted to dissolve the society effective July 2026.

SODAA was founded out of a love for dogs and a desire to bring dog sports opportunities to the South Okanagan at a time when few existed. Over the years, the organization has been instrumental in introducing and promoting a variety of dog sports, helping to build a vibrant and engaged dog sport community throughout the region.

Today, dog sports are thriving across the Okanagan, with numerous clubs, organizations, and opportunities available to participants. The Board believes that SODAA has successfully fulfilled its original purpose and that it is time to pass the torch to those who have continued to grow and expand these activities with great enthusiasm.

The Board of Directors wants to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support over the years. Without your enthusiasm for dog sports we would have never existed. We truly hope you have found other avenues to continue to have fun with your dog, and we encourage you to check out all the new clubs in Okanagan offering amazing activities.

Due to renovations, our usual venue in Summerland is no longer suitable for SODAA’s classes or trials. We look forward to more fun in the new year, but need a new space! If you or your business have an indoor area that is dog-friendly, large enough for groups of at least 6-8 people (plus their dogs) at a time, and has parking… please email us at [email protected]

We try to keep our costs down but we have some budget for rent, we are insured, and we clean up after ourselves! Penticton preferred but we would consider other options from OK Falls to Summerland if needed. Thanks for helping to spread the word.

**Nose Work Trial Prep**
May 9, 16 & 23, 2023 • Summerland, BC • 6:30pm-8:00pm • $50

Who is this for?
SODAA is looking to host a C-Wags League Trial in June. The League Trial will take place over 4 Tuesday evenings in June for C-Wags Level 1 & 2. In order to prepare we will be offering Trial Prep classes in May.

This class is for dogs with some nose work experience who are preparing to enter C-Wags Level 1 & 2 and/or Ranger (distance) Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent), likely for the first time. If you already have titled a dog in Level 2 C-Wags or CKC novice this class is NOT for you!

Session 1: Trial Orientation with no dogs. We will go through rules, protocols, scents, leash handling, C-Wags registration, everything you need to know to prepare to enter a trial.

Sessions 2 & 3: Actual mock trials. Dogs will be kept in cars and dogs will run one at a time.

Canine Strength & Conditioning Seminar with Bobbie Lyons CSCC, CCFT, KPA, CPT

Do you have a Senior who is starting to struggle? Do you have a puppy you want to start out right? Do you have a performance dog? Do you show your dog? Do you take long hikes or do other workouts with your dog? Then this Seminar is for you!

Day 1: Focus on Posture and Building a Strong Foundation
Learn about your dog’s posture and how it affects strength, balance and movement to help your dog maintain good form and function in everything they do.

Day 2: Take the Skills from Day 1 and Apply to them your Dog
Learn specific exercises that target movement and increase muscle engagement to reduce injury.

We look to have just one more spot available for our Beginners Nose Work Class. Beginners level is for dogs who have taken Starters level or equivalent (e.g. experienced handler has trained a new dog to start searching and alerting on target odours; you've taken an online course at home, etc.).
