Props are a tool- Part One- Lizard Pose. 💫

There is often a misconception when it comes to the use of props, especially with people who are just starting out their practice! There is this idea that using props means you’re a beginner or “not as good”- but that’s just not true! Using props doesn’t equal modification. Sometimes props allow you to experience a pose more fully.

There are many reasons you might choose to use props.
• to help bring the floor to you
• to improve alignment
• to provide support, allowing you to stay in the pose
• to give you more space to sink into a pose
• to add a challenge

Swipe through to see just a few ways that blocks can offer support, a variation, or a challenge in Lizard pose!

Remember there isn’t one way to use a prop, and you might choose a different variation depending on the day and how you’re feeling.
If you’ve been sceptical about props- try one next time you practice and notice the difference 🤍

If you’ve been apprehensive about trying yoga because you’re worried you “can’t do yoga” or you’re “not good at yoga” - remind yourself: yoga doesn’t need to look a certain way.

Maybe right now you can’t
• touch your toes
• balance well
• go upside down

Focus on what you can do
• show up for yourself
• breathe deeply
• find stillness
• be kind to yourself while you learn something new

If you can do those things, or are willing to try, then you can do yoga.

If you want to progress with physical poses, that’s okay too! Just remember, yoga is not only about physical poses, it’s so much more. Everyone’s practice looks different, and it doesn’t need to look a certain way to be impactful. There are no prerequisites, and everyone is welcome here at Metta 🤍

Try out a class and come and see for yourself ✨

Have you thought to yourself, I can “only” make it to one class a week, so is it even worth it?

The answer is YES!!!

While one class might not seem like a lot to you, that once a week 40, 60 or 90 minute class is 52 classes a year! 52 times you spent:

• dedicated to yourself
• away from your phone
• connecting to your breath
• feeling instead of thinking
• being part of community
• honouring your body

When you think about it that way, one class a week seems like a pretty good start 🤍

Any amount of time you take for YOU is worthwhile. Taking an hour once a week for yourself to focus on connection, movement and breath, has cumulative impact for you, and the people around you. ✨

On September 26th (this Saturday), Metta is hosting a 2-hour restorative session where we will journal and reflect, practice Trataka, and finish with a restorative practice.

We’ve had some inquiries — what is Trataka?!

Trataka means; to look or to gaze steadily.

To practice Trataka meditation, you gaze steadily at one point or object, commonly a candle flame. This one object becomes the focus of your concentration, giving the mind something simple and steady to rest its attention on.
Rather than trying to clear your mind of thoughts, Trataka invites you to notice when your attention wanders and gently return it to your point of focus.

Over time, this practice can help cultivate concentration, presence, and stillness— creating a bit more space between you and the constant movement of the mind.

For our September 26th session, you will be guided through a Trataka meditation, before moving into a deeply restful restorative practice.

If you have been craving a slow, quiet morning with space and time to slow down & turn inward, this practice is for you! 🤍

September 26, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM at Metta Mind and Body. Head to our website to register.
