Back To Basics Series Reflections!
Here are some steps and reflective questions. If you haven’t watched the other posts and reels leading up to this one in the series, check out our timeline.
Back to Basics Series Part 7
If there are cracks in the foundation, we don’t simply paint over them and pretend they’re gone. We look at the underlying structural issues. We reinforce the places that need support. We add the beams, strengthen what’s been weakened, and create a foundation that can hold more weight.
That’s what working on our mental health can be.
Not erasing the past.
Not denying what happened.
Not pretending we were never hurt.
But understanding how those experiences may still affect us, addressing the cracks, and building the support we need to live lives that feel more stable, more grounded, and less dominated by distress and symptoms.
Part 6 of the Back to Basics series!
Why does the traditional mental health advice (breathing exercise, walks, mindfulness) not always work?
CONTEXT matters.
Check out the reel and before you judge yourself for struggling, ask yourself: Am I expecting a basic habit to fix a structural reality?
Part 5 of the Back to Basics series!
When it comes to regulating our nervous system, we often think we need new tools, new strategies, or complex coping mechanisms. But what if the missing piece isn’t a new skill at all?
What if it’s intentionality? 🌿
There’s a big difference between just doing something (like drinking a cup of tea or going for a walk) and being fully aware while you’re doing it. Regulation happens inside the awareness—not just the action.
Before you go looking for a new tool, ask yourself: How can I bring more intention to the habits I already have?
Reflection Question: What’s one routine habit you already do that you can bring more presence and awareness to today?
📌 Save this post as a reminder for later!
When we say we want to be more grounded or work on our emotional regulation, what does that actually mean?
Spoiler: It might look a little different than you think. Check out the video and the rest of our Back to Basics series!
Regulation isn’t something you have to figure out all on your own—in fact, our nervous systems are wired to heal and find steady ground in connection with others. There is no single “right” way to look after your mental health.
When your mental health practices align with your personal values, your culture, and your history, they naturally become much more effective for your nervous system.
For many of us—regulation and presence don’t always happen in quiet isolation. We also find regulation in rhythm, collective spaces, and working with our hands.
Healing is about finding the unique tools that genuinely resonate with who you are and where you come from.
💬 Let’s build an ongoing list of these practices together.
What is a cultural or non-mainstream practice that truly aligns with you and brings you back to yourself?

If I know it’s good for me...why am I not doing it?
If you’ve been beating yourself up for being “lazy” or “inconsistent” with your self-care, this one is for you.
Mainstream wellness culture loves to tell us what to do, but it usually ignores the context -who is doing it, their history, and their current environment.
💬 Once you’ve swiped through, share it with a friend and talk about your thoughts ((having these conversations helps us process and integrate what we learn).

Most mental health advice focuses on what to do or what to add. However, very few talk about what everything is being built on.
A strong home isn’t just walls and a roof. It’s the ground beneath it, the soil it sits on, the weight it’s been designed to carry.
If we ignore that, even the best designs won’t hold.
Your mental health works the same way.
You’ve been given habits, routines, and tips without considering what your foundation was built on and what sustains its structure.
This series is about understanding your foundation, what’s universal, and what’s shaped by your environment, your story, your context.

Happy Mother’s Day!
Today we are honouring the mothers we don’t always see.
The immigrant mother raising her children to build their sense of self while trying to figure out her own.
The BIPOC mother navigating systems not built for her.
The mother who’s breaking cycles with her children while carrying her own trauma.
The mother who provides a sense of safety for her children while in constant survival mode herself.
Tag or send this to a mom whose unseen work goes unnoticed. Let this be a sign of your appreciation!
