Self-care information and Pilates for a life well lived-staying healthy, fit and physically strong

Mary German, Living Well Pilates, offers healthy tips for "living well" in today's world.

Apparently I have been ✨CURED✨ according to Social Security!!! 😭♿️

After almost 8 years, I received a letter saying my disability has “ended.”

Spoiler alert…I am, in fact, still paralyzed😂😂 I still use a wheelchair. I still can’t walk. I still need accessible parking, accommodations, adaptive equipment…ya know, all those fun little disabled person things.

What they ACTUALLY mean is that I no longer qualify for SSDI benefits because I’ve been working and earning above Social Security’s monthly income limit.

For anyone who doesn’t know, SSDI has work incentives that allow you to test your ability to work while still receiving benefits. One of those is a 9-month Trial Work Period. After that, there are additional rules around how much you can earn and continue receiving SSDI benefits.

So no, my spinal cord did not spontaneously regenerate🤣😂 My disability didn’t “end.” I wish it were that easy🫠

I built a career that eventually allowed me to earn too much to continue receiving my monthly SSDI benefit…and THAT is something I’m incredibly freaking proud of. 🥹

I’m obviously being very sarcastic in this video because the wording of the letter absolutely SENT ME. Like congratulations everyone!!! I have been healed!!! 😂🙌🏼

But underneath the joke, this is actually a pretty huge milestone for me😍

From wondering what my life, independence, and career would look like after becoming paralyzed…to building multiple businesses, working for myself, and reaching a point where I no longer qualify for SSDI because of my income! THAT part feels pretty damn good🫶🏼♿️

And just a reminder y’all, your disability status and your ability to earn an income are two completely different things!!

Improve Your Posture Without Leaving Your Office + AUGUST SPECIAL! 08/17/2026

Spending most of your day at a desk? Let's give your posture some attention! Long hours of sitting can leave your neck, shoulders, and back feeling tight and tired. The good news? You don't need to leave your desk for a quick Pilates-inspired posture reset! Try these simple movements throughout your workday: ✨ Shoulder Rolls Sit tall with your feet grounded. Slowly circle your shoulders up, back, and down 5–10 times. Focus on creating space across your chest. ✨ Shoulder Protraction & Retraction Sit tall with your arms gently extended in front of you. Keeping your arms still, reach your shoulder blades forward to gently round the upper back. Then, draw your shoulder blades back toward each other without shrugging your shoulders. Repeat 8–10 times, moving slowly and with control. ✨ Seated Spine Twist Place your hands across your chest. Keeping your hips facing forward, gently rotate your upper body to the right, return to centre, then twist left. Repeat 5 times per side. ✨ Seated Cat-Cow Place your hands on your thighs. As you inhale, gently lift your chest and lengthen your spine. As you exhale, round through your upper back and gently tuck your chin. Repeat 8–10 times. ✨ Chin Tucks Sit tall and look straight ahead. Without looking down, gently draw your chin backward as if creating a "double chin." Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 8–10 times. ✨ Seated Side Stretch Reach one arm overhead and gently lean to the opposite side, creating length through your side body. Hold for 15–20 seconds, then switch sides. ✨ Ankle & Foot Pumps Keep your heels on the floor and lift your toes, then switch by keeping your toes down and lifting your heels. Repeat 10–15 times to get some movement into your lower body. Remember, good posture isn't about sitting perfectly all day, it's about moving often, building strength, and creating awareness in your body. Ready to take your movement beyond your desk? Come move with us in the studio! 🧘‍♀️

Today Weasel clicked into the Cadillac for some extra springy Pilates🦮💛🐾

The resistance of the springs helped him lengthen his legs, find mobility through his joints and strengthen his stride🙌

This was especially important as he has been struggling with getting down the stairs and dragging his hind knuckles as he walks😔

But at the end of the day he nearly raced down the stairs and walked like a dream all the way home🤩

I realize this may not be conventional Pilates, but it is working to save my boy’s mobility and improving his quality of life💛💛💛

To anyone interested in learning how to find safe mobility with your pups, we will be hosting two live virtual events. Join us for Pawlates at Home August 16 & 26 at 7am HST🐾🏡

And in case you are new here… this is Weasel, a 15 year old golden who is regaining movement through Pilates! Just a few weeks ago he had suddenly and rapidly starting losing control of his hind legs. With guidance from a veterinarian PT and through the power of Pilates, he has been able to regain a lot of his functionality and is making progress daily.

I own a Pilates studio on the beautiful island of Oahu where I am fortunate to be able dedicate time each day to helping Weasel heal both outdoors and using this incredible equipment. We are constantly finding new ways to support him, and I am so grateful that it is working🙏

Check out more of Weasel’s journey on my page and follow us if you’d like to keep up with his progress🤍🦮
