‼️Poor Air Quality Alert: Keep your horses safe‼️
Wildfire smoke can pose serious health risks - not just to us, but to our horses too. If you’re considering exercising your horse during smoky conditions, take these precautions:
☑️ Check the AQI (Air Quality Index)
Avoid riding if AQI is over 150. Even moderate levels (101-150) can affect sensitive animals such as those with asthma or chronic respiratory conditions.
☑️Watch for signs of respiratory stress
Coughing, nasal discharge, increased breathing rate, or lethargy could all indicate smoke-related issues.
☑️Reduce intensity
Opt for light turnout or walking instead of intense training. Keep sessions short and monitor your horse closely.
☑️Hydration is key
Smoke can dry out airways. Make sure your horse has constant access to fresh water.
☑️Stable smart
If possible, keep horses indoors with good ventilation and minimize dust and other irritants.
Don’t hesitate to contact your veterinarian if you have questions or concerns. 💙🐴
