While our Thursday ride club ride was cancelled due to thunderstorms, the shadows during our Tuesday ride in the Holland Marsh were just mesmerizing. The synchronicity and rhythm shared by the whole group was something to see and experience.

A quick race report from the Kingston Stage Race on the weekend as friends have been asking. It was an exciting and rewarding experience overall and, as a fellow race organizer, I could see that Ontario Cycling and the Limestone City Cycling Club had their hands full with constantly adjusting schedules and category consolidations that left riders continually checking websites to see when they would ride and with whom. It wasâŚa little chaotic. There are lots of balls in the air for these complex events and their stress was evident. The opening hill climb on Friday afternoon took place at Fort Henry. As per the rules, pre-rides were not allowed. I assumed that, given the race was only 800m, there couldnât possibly be anything confusing about course guidance. With nutrition, training and rest in place, I felt confident in a good result and approached the starting ramp ready to unleash everything I had. The climb was broken into two pieces: A steep initial section of about 350m, followed by a slight bend to the right that led to a small downhill, and then a final kick to the top. I stood and sprinted the entire first chunk and likely had my best 45-seconds power ever - felt great! The climb ended after entering Fort Henry itself. As I climbed into the open square within the fort walls, I saw an Ontario Cycling commissaire standing by some pylons. The finish was right there! Story continues in commentsâŚ

And we are off for our next physical and mental challenge. We have just hit the road on our way to Kingston to participate in our first road stage race since 2008 over the course of three days weâll race a hill climb, a time trial a crit, and a road race. First up is the hill climb and our start times are at 8 PM tonight. When we last attempted such a feat, in Elliot Lake, we blew expectations out of the water with Kelly winning the hill climb and I winning both the hill climb and the provincial championship road race and getting on the podium in the crit. Expectations are not high for a repeat, but will certainly give it all we can. The challenge and fear of doing something new and uncertain are all part of the thrill. YesâŚwe bring our own coffee machine. đ
