Meet Water Soldier, a newer invasive aquatic plant first identified in Lake Simcoe in 2024, though it was likely present for several years before being officially confirmed.

Water Soldier is a perennial aquatic plant that grows rooted to the lake bottom for most of the year. In late summer, it rises and floats on the water's surface, making it much easier for the plant to spread to new areas.

Early detection and awareness are key to protecting the health of our lakes and preventing invasive species from spreading.
