It seldom comes down to one specific thing that adversely affects accuracy. A sharp muzzle, even on a brand new rifle can mean a muzzle is not squared or properly deburred.

Zero stop dials.

These can be either the best or most frustrating option on a scope.
Once the optics are zeroed this option is awesome. When when zeroing your scope if you have to adjust lower than the zero you have work to do and it's almost always at an innoportune time.
If you're mounting a scope, changing loads, adjusting or just not sure of your zero, here's a tip. Adjust your elevation zero stop dial 180 degrees on the bench before heading to your range. This will allow you half a dial turn, 7.5 to 10 moa depending on dial, before you have to loosen your dial. If you've ever spent half an hour on your hands and knees searching through ground vegetation for a tiny Allen Wrench you'll appreciate this tip!

Getting ready to mount a Leupold Optics VX-4HD 4-16 x 50mm (30mm) scope on a R***r M77 Hawkeye Long Range Hunter in 6.5 CM.
From what I can see Leupold has hit the nail squarely on the head with this line of scopes. Excellent optics, very clear glass, very versatile with 4X magnification and a reasonable for quality price tag. A bit nicer than the 3's and far more affordable than the 5's. Very nice optics for the price in my humble opinion.
We mount them, chronograph the loads, measure scope height, get your environmental data, send it off to Leupold so they can make a custom for your rifle CDS dial. We receive it from Leupold, install it and you get a complete range tested turn key platform.

"It's brand new. It doesn't need cleaning."

I hear that a lot.

These patches came out of a brand new rifle before it ever fired its first shot for the customer.

Most factory rifles are test-fired before they leave the manufacturer. That's completely normal. Add in machining residue, preservatives, tiny steel particles, and packing oils, and "brand new" doesn't always mean "clean."

When we discuss mounting a scope or begin accuracy testing, I suggest a rifle should get a proper bore cleaning.

Not because it's dirty enough to hurt anything...

Because I want the rifle's first shots with your ammunition to tell me what the rifle can actually do—not what leftover factory residue has to say about it.

It's one of those little details most folks never see.

It's also one of the reasons I can stand behind my work.
