The Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival began in 2003 as a grassroots, community-supported event focused on raising funds for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Nanaimo. Now produced by the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club, the event remains an important fundraiser for cancer prevention and treatment on Vancouver Island.
