Yesterday, our doors opened for another year as our youth players arrived, received their gear and found their place in the locker room for the season ahead.

For some, it’s a return to familiar faces. For others, it’s the first day of a completely new experience. But from day one, they become part of the same family.

New teammates. New friendships. New challenges. New memories waiting to be made.

Alexis Viel — Quebec, Canada → Denmark

Some Global Pathways begin halfway around the world. Alexis Viel’s began right here at home.

Alexis joined Somang when he was just 13 or 14 years old, and over the years we’ve had the privilege of watching him grow — as a player and as a young man.

He worked his way through the ranks of our academy, eventually reaching our Premier team, always carrying the ambition of seeing just how far hockey could take him.

Now, that journey is taking him across the Atlantic.

Alexis is heading to Denmark, where he will continue his hockey career and experience the game, culture and lifestyle of another country for the next chapter of his journey.

From growing up and playing hockey locally in Quebec to experiencing life in Europe and the streets of Copenhagen, Alexis is doing exactly what we hope our players will have the courage to do: dream bigger, step outside what is familiar, and let hockey expand their world.

That’s what Global Pathways means to us.

It isn’t only about where you play next. It’s about where the game can take you, the people you meet, the cultures you experience, and the person you become along the way.

We’ve watched Alexis grow up in a Somang jersey. Now we get to watch him take that next step out into the world.

We couldn’t be more excited for you, Alexis. Enjoy every moment of Denmark — you’ve earned this opportunity.

🇺🇸 Mikey Trudeau — Arizona, USA

Three players. Three very different backgrounds. Three different paths that brought them to Somang with the same thing in common: big dreams and the determination to keep moving forward.

Now, those paths come together again.

Santi, Sander and Mikey will all continue their hockey and academic journeys at the University of New Mexico, where they will be teammates once again and compete with a strong ACHA program.

For us, this is what Global Pathways is all about.

Players come to Somang from different countries, cultures and hockey backgrounds. Our goal is to help each of them find the pathway that fits their ambitions — whether that leads to junior hockey, college hockey, professional opportunities, or simply the chance to keep playing the game they love while building their future.

From Mexico, Norway and Arizona, through Somang, and now together in New Mexico.

Different beginnings. A shared journey. And another exciting chapter ahead.
