FTC Tuesday Tip: Visual Tracking
As the goalie’s #1 anatomical, the eyes play many roles in the goalie’s game.
The tracking of an incoming puck is fundamental to first-save success. The tracking of the puck allows the goalie to customize their save specific to this trajectory.
It is also critical to rebound-control enhancement. Accurate tracking leads to accurate save response.
Whether a glove, pad, stick, or even the torso, effective tracking supports the save details necessary for control.
It is also essential to the post-save process. The visual tracking of an incoming puck sets the goalie up for visual attachment on the outgoing puck.
Effective tracking is evident to all that watch. The strong tracker looks in command, a poor tracker looks lost and out of control.

t's 2-2 with five minutes left and your team just took a penalty.
What runs through your head?
If your first instinct is frustration or fear, you're in the majority. But the best goalies in the world rewire that instinct into something completely different: hunger.
Not fear of the penalty kill. Ownership of it. This is your showcase. The moment the whole arena gets to see what you're capable of.
Reframe the penalty kill mindset, and watch what happens to your game.

FTC Tuesday Tip: Anatomical Asset 3
The hands are the goalie’s number three anatomical asset.
In today’s game, goaltenders must be equally competent at protecting their interior and their exterior.
Of course, the hands play an essential role in fulfilling this balancing act.
Hands require effective positioning within the stance to support forward, straight-line moves to incoming pucks.
Hand positioning also must accommodate and empower the full length of the arm in support of the goalie’s exterior – elbows and shoulders are vital complimentary elements to the hands.
Eyes, feet, and hands are the key anatomicals. They all work cohesively allowing the goaltender to excel in the paint.

Every word you say to yourself creates an image in your mind. And that image directly shapes what happens next.
Miss a save and tell yourself "I suck, I should have stopped that"? You've just programmed your brain for more of the same.
Miss a save and tell yourself "Next shot, next save. I'm a puck-stopping machine"? Now you've built a mental image of a goalie who stops pucks.
That's the power of self-talk. It's not fluff. It's not motivational noise. It's a neurological system you're either using for you or against you.
Elite goalies don't wait until they're playing well to believe in themselves. They talk themselves into playing well.
Powerful self-talk leads to powerful performances. That's not a slogan. It's a system.
