Running into the Champ, Jean Pascal and having Jean congratulating my Hall of Fame inductions is a pretty fitting Montreal moment: a Hall-of-Fame Taekwondo leader standing with a world champion Boxer, in a city that has genuinely produced—and adopted—an exceptional volume of high-level combat athletes.

When I was 21, I was already a National Champion athlete.
I walked into a gym knowing exactly who I was and what I could do.
And then I saw Dicky.
He was on the bar. Doing muscle ups. Clean, controlled, powerful.
I could do muscle ups too. That wasn't what stopped me.
What stopped me was his age.
Dicky was 76 years old.
I stood there at 21 — fit, decorated, heading toward two Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductions I didn't even know were coming yet — and I made myself a promise.
That. Right there.
That's the quality of life I'm after.
Not the trophies. Not the titles. The capacity. The capability. The body that still shows up for you decades after the competitions end.
I am keeping the promise.
Here's what I know after a lifetime in this: the lies that keep people out of the gym are the most expensive lies they'll ever tell themselves. "Too old." "Too far gone." "Too late."
Dicky was 76 doing muscle ups.
You don't need to be an athlete. You don't need to be local. Today, quality coaching reaches anyone, anywhere, at a price that works for real life.
