🌍 In a recent visit to Tanzania, Mr. Rodney Swigelaar, Director of our Africa Office, met with Hon. Hamis Mwinjuma, Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, to discuss Tanzania’s commitment to clean sport and its engagement with WADA.

Currently representing the African region on our Foundation Board, Tanzania plays an important role in our governance. Discussions focused on the country’s responsibilities within the global anti-doping framework, anti-doping enforcement at the regional and continental levels, and the importance of cooperation in protecting clean athletes.

Mr. Swigelaar also met with the leadership of the Tanzania Olympic Committee and the interim national anti-doping committee to discuss key priorities and the continued development of Tanzania’s anti-doping programme.

WADA and the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) have awarded the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies (Obvia) CAD 176,544 in financial support for a scientific research project aimed at identifying emerging AI technologies that can be applied to anti-doping. 🧠

Through a literature review and consultation with anti-doping experts and stakeholders, the project will assess the benefits and risks of the use of AI in anti-doping.

We were pleased to welcome WADA’s Athlete Council (AC) in Montreal this week for its first in-person meeting of 2026. ✅

Over two productive days, AC members exchanged perspectives on key topics of interest to athletes and discussed their priorities that will guide their efforts over the months to come.

The AC also had the opportunity to meet with our President Witold Bańka and Director General Olivier Niggli and to connect with WADA staff in an informative and engaging fashion.

With another productive meeting behind them, the AC continues to move its work forward, representing, supporting and promoting the voices of athletes on anti-doping matters. 🗣️

We have published our Independent Observer (IO) team report regarding the anti-doping program of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. 🏂

Our IO program is an important element of our monitoring of Major Event Organizations' compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, with IO teams providing an independent review of all aspects of the anti-doping programs as delivered at international events monitored around the globe.

In addition to providing real-time feedback and support during the Games in a collaborative way, the report outlines recommendations for possible improvements to the program for future games.

Bringing together the anti-doping community from across North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean, the Symposium is tailored to address the unique needs of stakeholders in the region, with a strong emphasis on compliance readiness.

Opening-day discussions covered key Code updates, government leadership, privacy matters, improvements to International Standards and reinforcing athletes’ voices.

As our Director General, Olivier Niggli, highlighted in his keynote address, now is the time for Code Signatories to work together and take the necessary steps to ensure they are ready when the Code enters into force on 1 January 2027. The foundation for future success is being laid here in Lima, but the work must continue in the months and years ahead.
