In recognition of Pride Month, WEAO is reflecting on the history, resilience and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
We remember the Stonewall Riots of 1969 (June 28), a pivotal moment in the movement for dignity, safety and equal rights. The events at Stonewall became a catalyst for change and helped inspire the Pride celebrations and recognition we see around the world today.
Stonewall reminds us that meaningful change often begins with the courage to speak up, support others and challenge exclusion.
As we recognize Pride Month, WEAO reaffirms our commitment to fostering respectful, welcoming and inclusive spaces where everyone can contribute, learn and thrive.
To learn more about Pride Month and the importance of creating inclusive workplaces, read this monthβs Community Voices article in The Current.

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, WEAO recognizes and celebrates the histories, cultures, knowledge and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples across Turtle Island.
We are also pleased to share a first look at Orca Woman, an artwork by Indigenous artist Finnaverre which will soon be displayed in the WEAO office as part of our ongoing commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces within our association.
For WEAO, Orca Woman is more than a visual addition to our office. Its presence reflects a broader commitment to fostering a community where people feel seen, respected and connected - and where inclusion is understood as an ongoing practice of listening, learning and taking meaningful action.
We look forward to sharing more about the artwork, its significance and its installation in the WEAO office in an upcoming edition of The Current.
