We had an amazing weekend at Mission Raceway Park. Friday was qualifying for Saturday's event. I thought Izzy did well with the .006 reaction time but then one of our competitors cut a .003 reaction time. So we qualified number two going into Saturday's race.
We made it all the way to the final round only to be shut down by the time of day as it was 11:45 when we made it to the finals and the track has to be shut down by midnight.
As she has done all year long, Isabella drove her butt off and did exactly what she needed to do to make it all the way to the finals. We were supposed to race Hunter Gallant, but the day ended due to time. The plan was to run the final round on Sunday, but that didn't work out either as the day was full of on and off again rain which is not a good recipe for drag racing and the track cancelled the day of racing.
Izzy and Hunter decided to combine the prize money for first and second place and split it equally. The only thing left hanging is the trophy and "the big cheque" that goes on the wall as memories, so stay tuned as Izzy and Hunter are going to have a reaction time duel at the next race to determine who gets the trophy and the big check for the wall.
Thank you to our amazing and always supportive sponsors Canco Petroleum Ltd. De Silva Autoworldfor making all of this possible and always being in our corner.
Thank you to my incredible wife for helping and supporting us all weekend along with keeping us fed, being supportive, helping out other race teams and just being the amazing person you are.
We are off to Spokane, Washington next week to represent Mission Raceway Park at the NHRA Division six ET finals Sept 03-07.
As a note, this is Izzy's last season racing a Junior Dragster as she is ageing out. So this part of her career comes to an end on the September 23 weekend.
It is really difficult to talk and write about as it brings tears to my eyes.
This has all been such an amazing run and I'm the luckiest dad in the world that gets to spend four days every second weekend with Izabella , doing the one thing that I love so much in life.....besides my wife, and that is drag racing. It's bittersweet because of all the memories, the amazing people we've met, our race track family, the amazing and beautiful track we get the privilege of racing at and the success we've had. We do have some irons in the fire for next year and one way or another, we will be at the race track, just with a different ride than the Canco Jr Dragster.
