I got word from Meghan and Travis Riggs that Cairds Lefty was put down yesterday when it was discovered he had advanced bone cancer.
Lefty had an early field trial career that was off the charts for an off age September whelped dog.
Lefty won the US Complete Futurity in Hoffman, NC and placed second in the NBHA Futurity in Cedartown, GA. Later that same winter he came within a whisker of winning the US Complete National Championship at Hoffman only to bobble a late covey find. ( Had it won according to Judge D. Hughes)
Later that spring on our way home from NC he won the US Complete North East Championship in Rhode Island. That fall at the age of two he was named runner up at the North American Woodcock Championship.
A diagnosis of Addisons disease shortened his field trial career although he won another championship in his later years with the Ridings family in Georgia.
I was so looking forward to seeing Lefty again this fall as Travis was going to bring him to New Brunswick on his annual hunt. Rest in peace dear Lefty.

Does anyone in the Maritimes have a 2 or 3 hole metal dog box they want to part with. Looking for something with good solid doors and latches that dogs can't chew or beat their way out of. IYKYK
