Sea Horse Farm is located in the coastal community of Upper Kingsburg. An outdoor sand riding ring is used for exercising the horses.

It is home to three beloved horses, cared for by local veterinarian - Alison MacKay-Lyons. Green pastures extend from the old barnyard (where animals have been housed since the 1750’s) to Hirtle’s Beach. The horses stay close to home during winter months and enjoy grass for as much of the year as possible through rotational grazing. In the past Alison has offered private riding lessons, but is currently focused on individualized equine care, dressage training and Veterinary Medicine.

We are happier than we appear! Great ride with Viper before the storm. Nova Scotia is anticipating a long stretch of heavy rainfall. The Sea Horses are back in the barnyard, ready to take shelter.

*** Not offering riding lessons ***

Dear horse loving friends,

I thought I should take the time to clarify: we no longer offer riding lessons at Sea Horse Farm. This summer, in particular, we have received many inquiries.
It was truly a pleasure to introduce so many horse enthusiasts to the joys of riding and equine husbandry over the years. Gradually, since becoming a veterinarian, my focus has shifted to breeding Dutch Warmbloods, training and boarding. Thank you to everyone for your interest.

Sincerely, Alison

Well Wemby, the pirouette should come naturally!
Jahina you are the most tolerant mother 💐
Viva is not the most tolerant sister 🤷‍♀️

Tonight at dusk. A great time to head to the beach — not too hot, not too cold.
Having the horses so close to the dunes and sea grass reminds me of visiting Sable Island in summer of 2017. It was a perfect day to land the small six-passenger plane on the sand. It was a delight to be invited to join a group of physiotherapists on their voyage. Walk the island, and meet Zoe Lucas. Hoping to return someday.

Moved the Sea Horses closer to the sea today! Viva and Wemby’s first time in our neighbour’s orchard pasture. The grass and the views are spectacular.

Early morning horse play at the Loafing barn. Niko (herd elder) takes no flack from “his royal badness” > Wemby!

Hirtles tonight with dear Viper. We haven’t been coming to the beach very often in recent years. Amazing to stroll alongside the rolling waves with the other sunset seekers.
