Congratulations to Saskatchewan’s 3 newest divers!

Yesterday we were at Lovering Lake completing the last dives of their open water course.

Bennett and David were this year’s recipients of the SUC’s Learn to Dive Scholarship.

And Bennett convinced his dad, Brad to sign up and take the course with him as well!

In addition to nailing all the skills, the fellas had their buoyancy right dialed as to not stir up Lady Lovering’s unforgiving silt bottom.

As a group we were able to navigate the line course, explore the fish cages and compass navigate to the east car. Everyone even jumped at the opportunity to lead parts of the last dive to navigate the group along the rock wall towards the scud.

Once again the baby bass were out to play everywhere. We were also joined by 2 adult bass, a pike and a couple walleye.

Kudos to the guys for choosing to get trained at home here in Saskatchewan. In challenging viz none the less! Great class!

Today we were out at Dief for OW dives 1 and 2 for the scholarship students.

The water level is high which makes for a longer swim to the first line. Viz today was less than expected for this site, but the students were buoyancy control rockstars and we were able to navigate the site as a group with no issue.

One more day, then the Sask dive community will have 3 new divers.

Every year the Saskatchewan Underwater Council awards two scholarships for young people to receive scuba training.

This year, both recipients chose to take their training with us, and today we headed out to the Disleyland pool to work on their confined sessions.

Saturday we were up at Lovering for a bass dive.

If you’ve been following our account you may have noticed we have been keeping tabs on the Smallmouth Bass population in Lovering Lake since they were first introduced in 2023. Since then, there have been 3 successful spring spawns and the population is establishing well. We report our findings and observations to members at Sask Fisheries and the Water Security Agency.

Saturday we spotted one adult, a few juveniles (1-2 years old) and too many from this years hatch to count. The babies are starting to school around the structures of the dive site.

Lady Lovering’s Viz has been uncharacteristically good for this time of year.

It was a beautiful thing.

Three tired dads made it out early yesterday for a jump in the lake

And it was a Father’s Day miracle as we actually had decent viz! First non-ice dive decent viz in like 2-3 years.

Left early and forgot to charge the GoPro, so you’ll have to take our word for it, but you could find the car with no line search, and easily see each other from behind the truck to in front of the hood. Lovering Lake, IYKYK.

The bass are establishing themselves well in the lake. We spotted several from shore ripping around in the shallows near the dive site.

Also a belated congratulations to Jake who completed his drysuit certification a few weeks back and joined us for the morning.

If you’re heading to WestHawk, don’t sleep on Miller Beach!

It took me a few years to really figure it out, because most of it is further out from shore than I first expected. But it’s fairly shallow to the first platform. From there, we book er straight to the deeper platform with the picnic table. From there, you can plan your next attack.

To the right, treasure chests, bicycles, fire hydrants and Santa. To the left, bleachers, boats, a large rock reef. Deeper, there is a beautiful shear rock wall that drops to about 70-80’. There’s beautiful quartz veins running through it and at the base of it you’ll find an old diving bell, some signs and the elusive Xbox.

And the bass are super friendly too!

Cat’s Ass may get most of the attention at WestHawk, but give Miller a go too!

It was a beautiful morning with blue skies, a glassy lake and pea green viz.
