Scammers are getting more and more polished. I took this incident further than I would normally as an exercise to show you what to watch for and how to detect a scam.
Things to check:
* Do the facts line up? Check the domain address, name, company name.
Are there spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes?
* Does the message match the expected profile? For example, this message is from the "president" of a large company. A person in such a role would not message inquiring about our services.
* The signature for a president is very sparse.
* Checking the URL, there was no website. Whois.com lookup can sometimes shed light on the situation.
* The attempt to get login information from you. It looked legitimate with a Microsoft logo and the usual login "look". DO NOT GIVE YOUR LOGIN. Ask yourself why someone asking for sales information would need your login?
* If you enter your login, you would be giving access to all of your company files, etc.
Share with your team, family and friends. We are all so busy these days and we are constantly asked for our logins so it is almost second nature to just ... log in...
