Lots of goalies train consistently throughout the summer… and then abandon their off-ice work as soon as practices, games and school return.

Within a few weeks, the strength, power and capacity they worked hard to build begins to slip.

Your in-season training will NOT look like your off-season training. It won’t wear you down, it will actually build you up, make you more consistent and more confident as the season progresses.

The number of workouts per week will decrease. Volume will decrease. Exercise selection may change based on your schedule and how your body is responding.

The goal is to maintain the qualities that support your performance without competing with practices and games.

Your summer program and your in-season program should be connected—not two unrelated plans.

A workout can look impressive and still be the wrong workout for you.

Before adding another hard session to your preseason schedule just to ‘TOP UP THE TANK’, ask:

1. What will my camp or tryout actually demand?
Look at the number of skates, the schedule and how quickly you will need to recover.

2. Where can I get the most bang for my buck?
Do not train everything equally just because you are unsure what to prioritize.

3. Can I recover from this session?
Training only creates improvement when you can adapt to it.

Now is not the time to hammer yourself into the season. It’s the time to fine-tune and recover.

Save this before planning your next week of training.

If your summer training hasn’t gone exactly as planned, the answer is not to panic and start doing everything at once.

More conditioning.

More lifting.

More ice.

More “goalie-specific” circuits.

That usually results in a tired (injured) injured goalie — not a prepared one.

The job now is to identify what will make the biggest difference when you return to the ice and build the remaining weeks around those priorities.

You may need strength. You may need power. You may need better conditioning. You may simply need to recover from the amount of hockey you have already played.

The right answer depends on the goalie.

Forget about punishing yourself for what you didn’t do. Focus on making smart decisions with the time you have left.

DM me **PLAN** if you know you need more structure before the season begins.

This is for the goalies who have the drive, saw great development from season to season when they were younger, but now you feel like you’re hitting a plateau.

When you are young and start doing off-ice training, almost ANYTHING works. It might not be the best, but you will probably see results.

As your training experience builds from year to year, you need to adapt your approach and take on an elite training approach, just getting stronger will not deliver those same results.

If that’s you - you’re motivated, you are putting in work consistently, but feel like you’re development has plateaued, DM me PLAN and we’ll have a chat.

Competence, confidence and consistency doesn’t appear on game day.

It start on Tuesday morning, when nobody is watching.

Those 3C qualities are a direct reflection of your:
➡️ Identity

➡️ Habits

➡️ Standards

➡️ Self-Respect

Every workout, every meal, every mobility session, every time you go to bed on time, you cast a vote for the goalie you are becoming.

If you are ready to train with a proven system instead of guessing and your willing to accept some accountability for your habits and standards, DM me “PLAN” and let’s talk.

When people ask how the best of the best stay motivated to train, the truth is they don’t rely on MOTIVATION very often.

Once they decide what they want to achieve and how they want to show up as an athlete - strong, prepared, with a quiet confidence; they find and follow the system to become that athlete.

They just follow the plan day in and day out.

Motivation is a nice treat when it shows up; not a deciding factor.

Don’t wait for motivation. Don’t trust motivation.
Do what you need to do to achieve what you say you want to achieve.

If shooters always seem to pick corners on you…
there’s a good chance you’re leaking space without realizing it.

I give you 3 simple posture fixes to make you look bigger in the net in this week’s video. Watch it here >> https://youtu.be/pWYIRQIYQX8

He was ‘doing everything right’ but his training wasn’t changing his game and here’s what turned the tide.
I love working with goalies like him. He was driven to be the best he could be AND he was putting in the work consistently week in and week out.

But when we had our first Zoom call and he explained his DIY routine that included ‘everything he needed as a goalie’ I saw the two of the three most common issues that derail a goalies progress from one season to the next.

1. He thought more exercises = Better training, so he wouldn’t miss anything
2. Effort applied to a random program progression
(the 3rd one is not training consistently)

When we decided to work together the first thing we did was take his discipline and channel it into only working on the things that would build the adaptations that he needs right now, because that set him up to progress from one training phase to the next.

His program does not look like a little bit of everything, it looks like specific workouts for specific adaptations and only 35-days into his off-season he’s already frustrating the shooters at his prospect skates.

If you feel like you’re doing everything right and not seeing dramatic improvements on the ice, DM me PLAN and stop guessing. Send that as a DM not a comment please.
