I started writing fitness blogs in 2009, before I even started BEFIT in January of 2010. Fast forward 17 years, and I've now written over 500 blogs on that website.
But if you've been around a bit and noticed I'm not writing as much, there's a reason for that: I've been writing a book for the past 18 months.
It's called The Kinetic Code, and it's essentially a distillation of everything I've learned, written and coached over my 18 years as a fitness professional, along with plenty of original ideas that I've been saving for the book.
After 500+ blogs in addition to years of writing a weekly gym newsletter, I thought I understood writing pretty well... But unfortunately, I severely underestimated how different writing a blog is from trying to create 220+ pages that you're willing to permanently put your name on (originally 290).
Then came the rewriting, the cutting, reorganizing, the moments of clarity, rewriting, editing, cutting some more, and occasionally spending hours perfecting something only to decide it shouldn't even be in the book at all (3 chapters to be exact, heck maybe 4, on my next revision...)
Most of this has happened pretty quietly, sitting behind a computer into the late hours of the night rewriting the same pages over and over again while still running the gym, writing newsletters, and everything else that comes with life.
But now that I'm finally getting closer to the finish line (fingers crossed), I thought I'd start sharing a little bit of the journey behind writing it. The good parts, the frustrating parts, some of the decisions I'm making, and eventually some of what's actually inside it.
Ok, back to writing the book...

Introducing our latest All Star of the Month Nicolle!
You can read her story here:
“I’m not entirely sure how I went from someone who couldn’t make a fitness routine stick to someone who willingly gets up at an unreasonable hour to go to the gym, but here we are.
I joined befit last year knowing it was time to take better care of myself. I’ve joined other gyms before and would quickly get bored or it felt like it was something I needed to do instead of wanted to do.
I think a big part of what keeps me coming back is the community, especially my regular crew. The friends I have here, new and old, make it feel like more than just a place to work out. They hold me accountable and make me want to show up every day. Having Joe as my regular trainer helps too. He makes the absurdly early mornings fun and has a habit of pushing me to do a little more, usually right when I’ve decided I’m doing quite enough.
Being named All Star this month is definitely outside my comfort zone, but I’m really honoured and grateful to be recognized.”

Introducing our latest All Star of the Month Kathryn!
Here's her story:
“I originally started at LVFIT back in 2019 and made the move over to BEFIT a year or two later. Since then, it’s been such a big part of my life. This past year has definitely had its challenges, and going into the recent 12-week challenge (my third one!), I really wanted to finally reach the goals I’d been working toward. I’d done the challenge twice before and had never hit the goals I’d set for myself, so finally getting there this time felt pretty rewarding. I definitely couldn’t have done it without the encouragement from the trainers and everyone around me. One thing I really appreciate about BEFIT is that the trainers are always encouraging you to push yourself while reminding you that you’re stronger and more capable than you think. They’re also constantly teaching you things… apparently I’d been doing push jerks instead of push presses until Josh pointed it out. Safe to say I learned something new! BEFIT and LVFIT have played a huge role in my health journey, both physically and mentally, and I’m really grateful to be part of such an awesome community. Thank you for the recognition! You guys make it so much easier to stay committed and keep showing up.”

For 4 months of the year, BEFIT gets outside and uses functional movements that complement our strength training inside the gym.
Farmer’s walks build grip, grit, core strength, and conditioning.
Wall balls are the perfect mix of strength and conditioning, using the legs, core, shoulders, chest, and arms in one powerful movement.
Walking lunges build the glutes with every step like no other movement can.
This is why we train the way we train.
Because real fitness isn’t just what you can lift, it’s what you can carry, push through, and keep showing up for when it gets hard.
Summer training hits different at BEFIT.
What’s your favourite summer movement?

Have you met our latest All Star Jessica?
Here's her story:
“I signed up for my first class at Befit on my 29th birthday because I didn’t want to go into my 30’s feeling insecure and out of shape. I will be turning 31 this November and I can confidently say this is the best I’ve ever felt & coming to the gym is the highlight of my day.
Over the past 18 months, I’ve had mental mantras that have evolved along the way with me. I started with: Nothing changes if nothing changes, next was: Mind over matter, then: I can do hard things, and currently: Show me how good it gets.
I feel gratitude to be recognized in a space of people that I look up to every day! Thank you for the community, positive energy and knowledge. I’m proud to be a member of Befit!”
