I tell my clients all the time: you don’t necessarily need to find more time for movement. You need to build movement into your day.
But through midlife and beyond, I think we need to take that idea one step further.
Not all movement sends the same message to your body.
Your cardiovascular system needs to be challenged.
Your muscles need to produce force.
Your bones need loading.
Your balance and coordination need practice.
Your brain needs new movement challenges.
This becomes increasingly important as we age because we want to preserve the strength, bone health, cardiovascular capacity, balance and physical independence that allow us to keep doing the things we love.

I wrote more about this in my latest Substack: link is in my bio.

Your strongest years are not behind you.
At 45, I’m not training to become a younger version of myself. I’m training to keep building the strongest, healthiest and most capable version of the woman I am today.
Getting older does not mean becoming weaker, slowing down or accepting that your best years are over.
You can still build muscle.
You can still change your body.
You can still become stronger and more confident.
But you have to decide to begin.

ChairFit is more than a workout. It’s a welcoming place to build strength, improve balance and mobility, move with confidence, and connect with a great community.

Because getting older doesn’t mean moving less. It means making movement matter.

Join us Tuesdays & Thursdays at 11 AM for ChairFit.

Come for the movement. Stay for the friends.

You’re never too old to get stronger.

Had a nice chat talking about Real Life Strength with Chemainus + District Chamber of Commerce . 😊

This is exactly why I love meeting our new members. ☕💛

I had such a great coffee and chat with Dr. Laura Reimer recently, and I really enjoyed hearing more about what she’s building.

What stood out to me is how practical her approach is. She works with women on building strength for real life, not chasing some perfect fitness ideal, but feeling stronger, more capable and more confident in everyday life.

She’s also got some really interesting workshops coming up, and you’ll likely see her teaching a few different things over at The Hive in Chemainus.

We’ll be sharing Laura’s upcoming workshops here on the Chamber page as they come up, but if you want to keep up with everything she’s doing, make sure to follow her on Facebook too.

It was lovely getting to know her better and hearing what she has planned.

Welcome to the Chamber, Laura! 💛

I saw a small sand sculpture at a recent beach festival with the words ‘Beauty is in the Process’ written across it, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.
Because isn’t that what the essence of strength training is?
We are often so focused on the end product ( numbers on a bar or scale, the size of your muscles, etc.). But there is something so much more beautiful happening in the process to get there. From the reps that feel a little easier week to week to the realization that you can be uncomfortable without being defeated by discomfort or fear.
It’s all building in beautiful ways.
Confidence
Patience
A relationship with your body

Sometimes these changes are so subtle that you don’t even notice them happening. Until one day you realize you are stronger…in so many aspects.
So the beauty isn’t only in what strength training creates at the end; the beauty isn’t only who you become while you are creating it 💜

Flowers need space to bloom… and sometimes so does your body

Space through the shoulders and chest.
Space through the spine.
Space around the hips.
Space in your breath.
And sometimes, space in your mind, too.

That is the theme I’ll be bringing to chair yoga tomorrow: Creating Space.

We’ll use gentle movement, mobility, breathing and mindful awareness to help the body feel more open, supported and connected.

Because movement doesn’t always have to be about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about giving yourself permission to slow down, breathe, and create a little room to move.

I’ll see you in class tomorrow at 11:30 🌺
