Thank you to everyone who submitted a name suggestion for our new ice resurfacer. We were blown away by the response, receiving 374 creative name submissions from residents across the City of Lacombe and Lacombe County!

After reviewing all eligible entries, the finalists have been selected and now the community has the opportunity to help choose a favourite.

Members of Council and Admin staff from the City of Lacombe are happy to meet, take your compliments and ideas as well as answer questions and field concerns you might have for our community or plans. Feel free to stop in for a pop up conversation and share your love for Lacombe.

Monday is officially Labour Day and it's the long weekend, for many to enjoy.

Just a reminder that City Hall, our operations headquarters and the Sportsplex offices are all closed this Monday, September 7th for Labour Day. The spray park will still be open on Monday, outside the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre, should the weather cooperate!

Lacombe is fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful natural areas, but that also means we share our community with wildlife. Coyotes, deer and other wildlife are part of our local environment, and residents may encounter them in neighbourhoods, parks, trails and areas bordering natural spaces.

We’re reminding residents to take a few simple precautions to help keep people, pets and wildlife safe:

• Keep dogs on a leash when walking in the community and on trails, and keep them close and under control.
• Keep cats indoors or safely contained- free-roaming cats can be vulnerable to coyotes and other predators.
• Give wildlife plenty of space. Never approach, feed, chase or encourage wildlife to come closer.
• Remove attractants such as pet food, bird seed, fallen fruit and unsecured garbage from your property.
• Stay alert, particularly near natural areas and during early morning and evening hours when wildlife can be more active.
• Talk to children about wildlife safety and remind them never to approach or run toward wild animals.

Coyotes generally avoid people, but they are wild animals and can pose a risk to pets, particularly when dogs are allowed to roam or approach them. We recommend keeping dogs leashed and cats indoors to reduce the chance of negative wildlife encounters.

If you encounter wildlife behaving aggressively or unusually, please report the sighting to Enforcement Services and avoid approaching the animal.

Marlene McQuesten of the Lacombe & District Rikubetsu Friendship Society stopped by City Hall to present a beautiful photo collage celebrating two special milestones: the City's 40th Anniversary of twinning with Rikubetsu and the 2026 Alberta/Japan Twinned Municipalities Conference.

The collage was created as a thank you for the City's support in helping make these events such a success. It captures many of the memories, friendships, and cultural connections shared with our guests from Rikubetsu, conference attendees, dignitaries, and members of the Friendship Society.

A big thank you to Marlene and the Rikubetsu Friendship Society for this thoughtful keepsake, presented to Mayor Thalia Hibbs, City of Lacombe. We're proud of the strong friendship that has grown between our communities over the past 40 years and look forward to many more years of connection and collaboration.

You may have seen the new Lime e-scooters throughout Lacombe. Enjoy and ride safe until October 31st and remember that e-scooters are considered Leisure Vehicles under the City of Lacombe Traffic Bylaw.

When riding an e-scooter:
✅ Ride on the sidewalk whenever one is available.
✅ Yield to pedestrians and use sidewalks in a safe manner.
✅ Riders under 18 must wear a Canadian Standards-approved helmet.
✅ Follow all posted signs and traffic controls.
✅ Park the e-scooter in a safe and courteous way when you're finished.

Whether you're heading to school, the park, or a friend's house, remember that sidewalks are shared spaces. Slow down, stay aware of those around you, and always give pedestrians the right of way.

The Kinsmen Aquatic Centre is closed for annual maintenance from now until October 12th.

This year, we are renovating the showers in the men's and women's changerooms, repairing some spots in the pool basin caused by general use and we'll also use this time for a deep cleaning and other general maintenance in and around the pool area.
