Another great year at the 2026 Canadian Muay Thai Open
It was great seeing so many athletes, coaches, and supporters come together for a great weekend of competition and experience. Thank you to MTO and the CMTO team for putting it all together, and to everyone who helped make the tournament what it was.
Proud to be part of it!
First up is Yanwei, who travelled all the way from China to Canada to test his skills on Canadian soil. With a full bracket, Yanwei faced a tough opponent in the semifinals and used his technical skills and composure to outwork his opponent and earn the win.
In the finals, he faced another very tough opponent who brought a strong clinching game. Yanwei did a great job using his technical skills, movement, and elusiveness, but we didn’t have quite enough volume to get the win.
It was a close matchup and a great experience for Yanwei. We’re proud of the way he competed and grateful he chose TKO to be in his corner.
Next up is Humaiz, who also faced a full bracket.
He made his way to the finals with a first-round KO in the semifinals, setting up a tough matchup against an opponent we had seen earlier in the tournament.
The final was a war from start to finish. Both fighters threw everything they had, there were some great exchanges, and neither was willing to give an inch. It went all the way to the final bell, but we didn’t get the win this time.
Humaiz showed how strong he is and what he’s capable of against a very tough opponent. We’ll take the experience, keep building, and look forward to getting him back in there.
Next up is Marija, who had a full bracket and received a bye into the quarterfinals, where she faced a very strong opponent.
Marija showed a lot of improvement from her last fight and put some great skills on display. She landed some solid counters and had some really good moments, but just came up short on the final result. She was matched up against the eventual winner of the division, making it a great test of her skills and a valuable experience. With a little more work on finding her range and getting into her distance, it could have been a very different fight.
It was a pleasure to watch Marija compete and

The 2026 Canadian Muay Thai Open kicks off this weekend, with 5 TKO athletes stepping into competition and welcoming Yenwei, joining us all the way from China.
A lot of work has gone into getting these athletes here. Now it’s time to compete.
Good luck to Daniel, Humaiz, Yenwei, Marija, Eric & Zeid. We’ll be in their corner every step of the way.
Come out, fill the stands, and let’s hear those TKO shouts! There’s nothing like hearing your team behind you when you’re in that ring

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR KRU YAI CHRIS 🥳
There’s a lot that goes into keeping a place like TKO going for this many years. A lot of people, a lot of chapters, a lot of change and a whole lot of work that happens behind the scenes.
And Chris has been at the centre of it for a long time.
From training and fighting out of TKO, to coaching, cornering, hosting events and eventually taking on the responsibility of keeping this place going — TKO has been a huge part of Chris’s life, and his passion for this gym is a big part of why these doors are still open today.
He’s helped build a place where so many people have come to train, compete, make friends, find their people and become part of the TKO family. He’s been there through the wins, the losses, the changes, the challenges and all the chapters in between.
And if you know Chris, I’m sure he’s made an impression on you somewhere along the way. 😆
Thank you for all the time, energy and passion you continue to put into this place. Thank you for putting the gym and its people first, for always being there when we need you, and for continuing to give so much of yourself to TKO.
You’ve been a pretty damn important part of this place for a long time, and we’re lucky to have you.
So here’s to you, Kru Yai! 🥂
Here’s to another year, another chapter and many more to come.
Happy Birthday, Chris! 🥳🥊
Love,
Your TKO Family ❤️
