Come sail with us! The Kanata Sailing club is a community-based organization committed to promoting safe, affordable, and fun sailing on the Ottawa River.

The Kanata Sailing Club is a non-profit, cooperative club on the Ottawa River. #noboatnoproblem
If you are a member, trainee or friend, try joining our Facebook Group page for candids and last-minute updates! We have our own fleet of multi-handed and single-handed dinghies and catamarans, so members have no need to own their own boats. We offer training courses for juniors, youth and adults, as well as group clinics for members.

KSC was proud to be an Activation Partner for the inaugural EOT event: Everyone Outdoors Together, on national Parks Day 2026! Can you spot all three of our briefest of clips in the video below?

Getting outdoors together is much of what we do at our club: we focus on teaching how to sail for all ages, and recreational sailing on club-owned boats. No restaurant or bar here. We focus on the sailing and self-catered socializing.

We are pleased to support getting more Canadians outdoors together as often as possible. Let's make this EOT event an annual tradition!

You’ve seen the sails out on the Ottawa River and wondered what that would be like. Wonder no more!

ENJOY A LEARN-To-SAIL STAYCATION
AUGUST 17 to 21 at your local community sailing club in Dunrobin Shores

Learn to sail small boats in an intensive one-week program, with experienced CANSail-certified instructors. We have a few spots left in the final Adult/Youth session of 2026. Wouldn’t this be an intriguing skill for your older teen to add to their CV before the end of summer?

Details at https://kanatasailingclub.com/training

And you’ll get to glimpse multi-year club sailors taking an intense two day skills-building course that will put them through their paces. That’s Monday and Tuesday. Should be amusing.

Ask about the membership discounts for this year and next that are bundled with this late season session.

ABOUT US:
Since 1975, this club has focussed on sailing small boats and catamarans, and self-catered socializing. That’s right. No restaurant or bar here. Sailing is the name of our game, and we’ve been at it here for over 50 years.

Fun fact: The season typically runs til one or two weekends after Thanksgiving. Come on in, the water’s Very Fine.

TRY-A-SAIL SUCCESS

On Sunday, July 26, the Kanata Sailing Club hosted Try-A-Sail Day… a summer Open House. Guests were invited to see what this community sailing club has to offer, and to hop on board a small sailboat or catamaran with an experienced sailor at the helm.

Despite temporarily glassy conditions, far from ideal for moving under the wind’s power, our guests were keen to get out on the water. So off we went! No fear… check out the two naturals on the Hobie 18 catamaran as they have fun mastering the trapeze from a standstill. That pair gamely swam the boat back to shore for the next group of sailors, laughing all the way.

Thanks to all our visitors for their enthusiastic enjoyment. And to the KSC sailing ambassadors of all stripes who made the day such a heart-warming success!

Canadian Parks and Recreation is inviting everyone to participate in the inaugural Everyone Outdoors Together (EOT) ritual on Parks Day, July 18 2026.

Members of the Kanata Sailing Club will gather and enjoy the evening outdoors together, whether on the water, or sitting on the end of the dock. We encourage others to get outdoors at sunset, no matter whether on a balcony, beach, garden, or forest, and enjoy a moment with friends connecting with nature.

Good news for everyone: March Valley Road route to the KSC may re-open sooner than mid-August.

An encouraging update today on March Valley Road, which remains closed as emergency repairs progress quickly. I've connected with City staff, which reports that crews are hoping to accelerate work next week and re-open sooner than the original mid-August expectation. I have connected with City staff asking them install signage stating the anticipated completion date.

Wednesday Night is Race Night in the summer

New members experiment, and have fun, and all of us improve our skills: smoothing out those tacks, tuning those rigs. Burgers and beer on the upper deck afterwards. What’s not to enjoy?

Hearing “I'm bored” from the kids?

Give them something thrilling to discuss at the dinner table and back at school in the fall.

Give your child an experience that builds intuitive STEAM skills. (That’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math.)

Wet-Feet learn-to-sail classes for the very youngest (6 years minimum) start Monday June 29, followed by CANSail 1-2, and CANSail 1-4 training rounding out the summer: https://kanatasailingclub.com/training/junior-sailing/

Intrepid sail-curious Ottawans ventured out on the water on Sunday as well as Saturday. There was zippy action this day with the high winds, and excitement ran high.

Our Sports 200 visitors helped us celebrate Sports and Community in Ottawa for the city’s 200th anniversary.

Thank you City of Ottawa for facilitating and advertising this event, and reaching out to sports partners. We all had a blast.

NEWS FLASH: LESSONS STILL AVAILABLE!

Week-long learn-to-sail spots for all ages (6 years and up) are still available at the Kanata Sailing Club: https://kanatasailingclub.com/training/

Youth and Adult learn-to-sail Staycations get you “from zero to hero”, in the words of a Staycation sailing graduate.

Lock in your training by joining the club, then use club boats to sail all over the Ottawa River til October. That’s right… no need to own your own boat.

We have been your Community Sailing Club since 1975: volunteer-run and cooperative.
