The start of another hockey season is just around the corner, and we’re excited to get things underway! There is a lot happening behind the scenes as we prepare for the 2026–2027 season, and we wanted to share a few important updates with the KMHA community.
Sort Outs Are Coming Soon
Our House League sort outs will be starting soon, as we work toward building balanced teams for the upcoming season. The sort-out schedule is being finalized now and will be released very shortly.
We know families are eager to know when their players will be on the ice, and we appreciate your patience as we finalize the schedule and coordinate the many moving pieces that go into making sort outs run smoothly.
Pre-Skates Begin in September
Pre-skates are also scheduled to begin the weekend of September 12th. We are currently finalizing the ice schedule and will share the exact dates and times with families as soon as they are confirmed.
Securing ice has become increasingly challenging, and the delayed completion of the TGRC has added to those challenges this year. With a shortened window to complete sort outs, combined with HEO requirements that prevent us from beginning the season before Labour Day, we are having to make the most of the ice that is available to us in September.
As a result, this year's sort-out schedule will include some weekday ice sessions that we have not typically needed in the past for a few age groups. We understand that weekday sessions can create additional challenges for families, and we appreciate everyone's flexibility as we work through this unusual situation.
We do not expect this to continue into the regular season outside of our planned interlock programming. It is a September scheduling challenge that we unfortunately need to work through this year in order to get the season started and teams formed as efficiently as possible.
Volunteers Make KMHA Happen
Like all non-profit sports associations, KMHA relies heavily on volunteers to make our programs possible. Every season, parents, family members, students and community members step forward to help provide our players with a great hockey experience.
Please keep an eye out for information from your age group convenors for ways you can raise your hand to help.
Need help?
If you have any questions prior to or after the schedule is released, please contact us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back at the rink and getting the 2026–2027 hockey season underway!

We are pleased to provide an update regarding the U21 House League program for the 2026-2027 season.
Based on the registration and planning for the upcoming season, we have confirmed the following changes to the U21 program:
U21 Games on Sunday Nights
All U21 games will be scheduled for Sunday nights only. This will provide a consistent weekly game night for the division and help accommodate the schedules of our U21 players.
Updated Registration
To reflect the U21 program's single weekly ice time, U21 registration will be adjusted accordingly. The registration fee will reflect the one scheduled ice time per week.
Families who have already registered for U21 will not need to take any action. KMHA will make the necessary adjustment to the registration.
Capital Region Interlock
The U21 division will also be included in the Capital Region Interlock program. This will provide U21 teams with the opportunity to play against teams from other participating associations during the regular season.
We are excited to offer this updated U21 program and look forward to providing our U21 players with a competitive and enjoyable House League experience.
If you have any questions regarding the U21 program or your registration, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at [email protected].
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the ice this season!
