In Advent we wait for God’s perfect timing. The seed of God’s promise has been planted in our hearts and we wait for it to blossom. In joy we look forward to the promises of Christ that are not yet fulfilled but will be.

As we enter the second week of Advent we find Zechariah, doubting the promise of an impossible child gifted from and for God. In the uncertainty of the journey of faith God speaks his peace over Zechariah “do not be afraid” (Luke 1:13)

As we begin Advent on Sunday, we remember that the Christmas story begins in the not yet. We see a woman named Elizabeth who could not conceive, possibly her greatest dream unfulfilled. In Advent we wait on God. There is nothing we can do to force the moment, to make it happen. We wait for the fullness of time.
