WHAT SHOULD YOU EAT BEFORE A TRAIL RUN? 🍌🏃‍♀️

Fueling before a run doesn’t have to be complicated.

🍞 Choose easy-to-digest carbs like bananas, oatmeal, toast with jam, or a smoothie.

⏰ Time it right and aim to eat around 1–3 hours before your run, depending on what works best for you.

🚫 Avoid experimenting with greasy, very high-fiber, or spicy foods right before running, especially if you know they upset your stomach.

Everyone’s pre-run routine is different, so find what works for you during training before race day.

What’s your go-to pre-run snack? 👇

Running your first trail race? Here’s what to know before race day. 🌲🏃‍♀️

WHAT TO EXPECT
• Trails are different from road running. Expect hills, uneven ground, rocks, roots, and changing terrain.
• Your pace will likely be slower than your usual road pace, especially on climbs.
• You may need to walk steep sections, and that’s completely normal.
• Be prepared for changing weather and conditions.

WHAT TO PRACTICE
• Practice running on trails before race day, especially terrain similar to your race.
• Test your shoes, socks, hydration, and fuel during training.
• Practice eating and drinking while running.
• Get comfortable running uphill and controlling your pace on descents.
• Practice using any gear you plan to race with, including a hydration vest or poles.

WHAT NOT TO CHANGE
• Don’t try new shoes, food, gels, supplements, or gear on race day.
• Don’t suddenly increase your training because race day is getting close.
• Don’t completely change your usual breakfast or caffeine routine.
• Stick with the fueling and hydration plan you’ve already practiced.
• Most importantly, don’t feel like you need to race someone else’s pace. Run your own race.

First trail race? Keep it simple, be prepared, and enjoy the trails. 🏔️

We are heartbroken to have to announce that we have cancelled the Dirty Feet Heartbreak Race.
The safety and health of our community, participants, volunteers, and staff remains our number one priority. While watching to events of this past weekend unfold in our area and seeing the province implement a province-wide state of emergency, we have made the absolutely impossible decision to cancel our event. All registered racers please check your email for more information and details.
Thank you
