Drummers and Dancers

We will have drum dance practice tonight Nov 16th 7-9pm at the Ingamo Friendship centre
At 20 MacKenzie Road
Come join, kids need to have adult supervision.. all are welcome!

We have finally starting doing performances, I will keep you posted on practices if we start to plan one.
It has been a busy time but once we figure out when everyone is available I will post dates and times.

Just to update everyone of practice times..
As of now, COVID restrictions do not allow people to gather and sing. Hopefully the virus starts to clear up soon so we can celebrate and dance for those who cannot dance anymore.
We will get there!

I am still searching for a space to have practice.. I will post once we have a space confirmed and then make a list of those in attendance as Covid will only allow gathering of 35 people.

Time has brought us here where we see the drumming and dancing starting to diminish. I want to see us be revived again by coming together and remembering our favourite songs and dance, sharing our loud voices with the world to make our culture and identity known.
If you haven't danced before, come and learn, if you danced and got lost somewhere.. come and get found.
There is so much knowledge and teachings that we need to preserve. There is no one that will come and keep it alive better than your spirit who loves to move to the beat of the drum (it's in us all). Don't worry if you are not of Inuvialuit descent, that's not what it's about... if you are interested in becoming a part of the group or just showing up to practices to learn the songs and dances and stories then come on in!

Drum dancing used to be a time and a place where we sang and danced til we had enough (which was rarely less than 3 hours) I remember coming up to the third hour whilst sweating enjoying every song and being like "aw! already done?"... that drive to stay in beat with the drum still lives in me and I want others to feel it too!

Drum dancing has given the ability to find your inner youth and awaken your soul where we can dance of being out on the land, acting out animal behaviours, chopping up wood to keep the camp warm, celebrating that we are Inuvialuk with a drum and song!
