What is an NEO? What is METS?

NEO is the Native Employment Officer that works with the METS Program within Glooscap First Nation. Our NEO works out of the band office and is the Community Services Officer, Sandy-Lynn Fisher.

METS is the Mi’kmaq Employment Training Secretariat. METS utilizes a sub agreement structure to deliver programs and services. Each of the 14 communities has a Native Employment Officer who is responsible for client support in their community. METS works to facilitate full participation of the NS Aboriginal workforce in meeting labour market demands of NS through program delivery and cooperative partnerships aligned to both Aboriginal and business/ government strategies and goals. METS and NEO’s are to seek, deliver and/or refer to third parties, programs and services to find employment for individuals and assist in meeting challenges associated with securing and maintaining employment including, but not limited to, skills development and academic upgrading.
