Motorcycle Rider Training Canadian Motorcycle Association - CMA

Beginning with the basics of balancing and braking, you will move through straight line riding, shifting and stopping and into curves, turns, simulated traffic situations and emergency maneuvers.

The emphasis during the practical training, and in the classroom, is on proven defensive driving techniques to keep you safe and confident.

The course concludes with a self evaluation and the Ministry of Transport approved M2 licensing test.

In order to participate riders MUST first obtain a M1 License (written/eye test) prior to registering for the M2 Course.
​
CMA currently provides two-wheel training in the Hamilton, Ontario area.

$529.00 * Plus Taxes = $597.77 Total

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates receive a 1 year complimentary CMA membership which may entitle them to a discount on insurance.

*Starting in 2015 the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is charging a processing fee of $20 per student. It has been included in our registration fees.
​
Requirements
​
Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and possess a valid Ontario Ministry of Transportation M1 License. This special license is a 90-day permit to ride a motorcycle (with certain limitations) and is issued by the MTO upon successful completion of a written test.
​
Please Note: You must hold your M1 License before actually booking the course. Spots cannot be held, even with your offer of payment, if you do not already have your M1.
​
When registering for the course, you must provide your driver’s licence number and the spelling of your name, exactly as it appears on the licence. Without this information, we are unable to enter you in the MTO data system.

Beginning in 2024, “Gearing Up” course participants (to get their M2 licence) will need to register with the SkillsPass website to receive their Gearing Up Certificate from the Canada Safety Council. Students will receive a link by email after passing the course, and upon completing the SkillsPass profile, will have their certificate emailed to them.

(** Decision on whether gear is acceptable is solely at the discretion of the senior instructor)

Retesting:
​
​One retest may be available, at no charge. This must be at a time convenient to the instructor and within the same season of the original course. Participant must have completed All Gearing Up training exercises and attempted the M1X test and was unsuccessful. If any portion of the training is missed and the participant left the course, a full day or a full weekend will be required at a fee to complete the missing lessons prior to testing. The participants M1 permit must be valid to retest and or/complete the course.

Cancellations & Changes - Refund Policy
​
Any course changes or cancellations must be in writing to [email protected] at least 7 days prior to the course to receive a full refund or course date change. These course changes or cancellations will be subjected to a $55 administration fee.
If you fail to attend a scheduled course without at least 7 days notice, there will be no refund.
There will be no refunds once the practical portion of the course has begun.
Any refunds or changes for early withdrawal from the course will be at the sole discretion of the Canadian Motorcycle Association.

Moto Introduction for Absolute Beginners. **Must be able to balance and ride a two wheel bicycle** No license provided at the end of this course***

Class size is capped at 5 participants

The three hour Introduction Course is a beginner-friendly program designed for individuals curious about motorcycling to experience riding for the first time in a safe, guided environment. It removes barriers by offering short-duration sessions featuring motorcycles. This Course is for absolute beginners, “moto-curious” individuals, and those considering getting their license. You will learn balancing and braking, starting, clutch control and moving off from a stop. An Ontario driver’s license of any description is required. An M1 is not required before you take this course. This course is intended for those people who have always wondered if motorcycling is something they should consider for themselves.

Christine does all of our bookings by phone. She speaks with every participant to make sure all questions are answered. Please be patient when calling as she might be on the phone with someone else. Office hours are Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm. Friday 8am-12 pm.

I am running another moto introduction Saturday August 29 in the morning. Please note, this will NOT be a women’s only course. If you’re interested, please contact our office to secure your spot. It is 199.00 plus tax. Participants need to bring proper riding gear. Group will be capped at 5 participants. We start with the very basics balancing and braking. By the end of the 3 hours, if the participant is comfortable to make the bike move, they will be able to partake in a small circuit in 1st gear. Thanks! Angela
