Sunday, August 30, is a second shot at the Island Race, postponed a week due to inclement weather on August 23rd.

The Island Race is a club fixture, winding its way around many of the islands in the Bay. A ‘competitive cruise’ so-to-speak.

Ten boats started Wednesday’s race in light winds, winds so light that the racers started on the club line with a course to and from Golf mark. ‘Light winds’ is an optimistic description with all but three boats retiring.

Storm Trooper won A-class and Blondie won B in her season’s debut. Sweet Caroline came within a few boat lengths of finishing, but the wind went into deep sleep and left her sitting just short of the goal. During the post-race pub gathering Brian Todd, who had watched the racing, gave racers an expert debriefs on sail trim in light airs.

Today is Wednesday keelboat race and pub night.
All are welcome to join racers at the pub.

The Island Race is an enjoyable highlight of our keelboat race program, but today’s weather says ‘Not Fun”. So …. we are postponing the Island Race until Sunday August 30th, in place of the doubled-handed race. Stay home tomorrow, stay dry!

Wednesday’s weather created quite a challenge for our racers.
With almost no wind, it was very quiet on St. Margaret’s Bay.

Keelboat Racing – Island Race is coming up this Sunday, and we’re hoping for enough wind to fill the sails!

Wednesday Keelboat Racing

We had a lovely evening last Wednesday and eight boats raced in a light southerly wind. The race ran for about an hour which was about right for the conditions as the wind faded shortly after the last boat finished. Spray 2 (A-class) and Batty Coda (B-class) protected their winning streaks, but Current Obsession came within 19 seconds of first place in B, close enough to beg the question: where could we have found those seconds on the racecourse?

Don’t forget that we are racing again today, Wednesday - August 12th, and gathering in the clubhouse afterwards for a pub night and BBQ.

Come in for a burger and a nice chat.
