On the scale: your body has no idea what day it is.
A client of mine [had a week averaging ~1900 calories and LOST weight].

Day-to-day and week-to-week has so many factors that aren't "real"
The trend over 4 weeks or more at a time is your true progress.
ll food is energy. You need it to live.
Some foods are just lower in nutrients and higher in calories.
That's it. No "good" foods. No "bad" foods. No "cheating." Probably try to eat more high nutrient/lower calorie foods and use moderation for the rest.

1200 calories actually works great for some people.
-A 4'10", 110lb woman who doesn't train.
-A competitor 2 weeks out from a stage.
-A medical patient under a doctor.
If you're not one of those three, that target probably isn't built for you.
Starting points (everyone is different so you must adjust based on progress)
-10-12x your current bodyweight for fat loss
-12-14 for maintenance
-14+++ for muscle building
Tough Matt.
If you are struggling with weight loss and "are eating too little"....are you tracking everything?
It's hard to figure out but eating too little 4-5 days a week and then eating a lot on the weekends is likely bringing your average calories (all that matters) out of a calorie deficit for weight loss.
Protein isn't just for muscle.
It's the easiest lever for hunger.
It digests slow, ramps up your "I'm full" hormones, and drops ghrelin (the hunger hormone).
Eat too little of it and you stay hungry even after a big meal.
Aim 4-5 palm-sized servings a day with 1-2 per meal/snack
