SO...STROLLER RUNNING....
Ever been passed by a person pushing a stroller and wonder how they do it? Then cheer them on? I do this frequently so today I asked many of them; “tell me about stroller running”.

Stroller running is harder than running without one, but easier than it looks. It is great when there are no hills (hello Eramosa River Trail Parkrun), and is a great way to introduce your kids to running and the great outdoors. In fact, getting the kids out was the # 1 motivator for some stroller dads. Hopefully there are some future runners in those strollers!

For others, it is the only way they get to run and a time management issue. Often getting out the door is the biggest obstacle.

It requires a slower pace, more coordination and good spatial awareness, especially at the start where there are a lot of people. Every person I talked to spoke of not wanting to run over anyone’s heels!

It is more technical running and for some requires more work with the abs and shoulders.

Key messages: a good running stroller is a must as are high value rewards to keep the kids from getting bored.

I appreciate the time people took to talk with me and look forward to seeing strollers on the trail next week!

This week we had 293 participants with a whopping 40 PB’s. We welcomed 23 first timers and a visitor from Scotland.

Kathryn E and Helena K both completed their 25th parkrun! Alyssa S finished her 50th! Way to go!

Our event only happens because of our amazing volunteers. Today we had 18 volunteers and welcomed Helena K as a first time volunteer. We would love to welcome more of you to our volunteer group. It is a fun way to give back to parkrun and training is provided. Consider volunteering once every 10 or 15 runs. You too could wear a stylish vest!

We hope to see you next Saturday at 9 AM at York Road Park. Feel free to bring a child stroller or a dog on a short handheld leash - all are welcome! If you’re joining parkrun for the first time, you can register once (for free!) at parkrun.ca/register. You’ll get a barcode to bring each time so you can receive credit in the parkrun results and kudos for your achievements!

Another beautiful Saturday morning for ERT is in the books, filled with smiles and great spirits! 🥰💛 We even had a young fairy spreading some dust over the course while her dad worked hard pushing the stroller 😉

This was a big week for parkrun in Canada -- the 10th anniversary of the first parkruns in the country in 2016! 🎆🎊. Since today fell on the 22nd of the month, it also was a tutu (22) run day, where participants are invited to show up in their most colourful tutus 😀.

People must have been inspired! The 251 participants in today’s event included 17 first time ever parkrunners and 16 second timers 🎉. Thirty-six set personal course PBs!

It was a day where youthful speed was on show. Peter O, in the 11-14 age group, set the fastest time on his 25th milestone parkrun, with the next three finishers all in the 15-17 age group.

We welcomed visitors from New Zealand, the UK, and Coquitlam. Happy you chose our event!

Congratulations to Laurie B for completing parkrun #200, Karl B for #100, Tim C and Jamie H for their #50, and Peter O and Rachel L for their #25 👏.

Your local parkrun thrives because of the work of volunteers. ***Luke H celebrated volunteering for the 100th time this week! 🤩.*** Our parkrun happened because of the work of 20 people setting up, marshaling 🚩, timing ⏲, handing out finisher tokens, and doing the other jobs to that make the event happen 💪. Volunteering is a fun way to experience and support parkrun. Experienced volunteers will be happy to give you training and support. Sign up at your next parkrun or email us at [email protected].

We hope to see you out to walk, jog or run for next Saturday at 9 AM at York Road Park. Feel free to bring a child stroller or dog on a short handheld leash. All are welcome!
