Dimanche 9 août, fumée et vent léger. J'ai tenté un vol du 9k. Moins ascendant que le vol du 5k le 7. Robert a décollé de la Vigie vers 13:00 et plouf aussi. Le meilleur doit être entre 15:00 et 17:00.
Sunday, August 9, smokey and light wind. I attempted a flight from the 9k launch. There was less lift than during the 5k flight on the 7th. Robert launched from the Lookout around 13:00 and also had a quick sled ride. The best conditions are likely between 15:00 and 17:00.

7 août, fumée encore plus dense, on ne voit pas les montagnes de l'autre côté et peu du fond de la vallée. J'essaye le 5k vu le vent sud-ouest. Quand j'arrive, c'est bon, mais le temps de me préparer, le vent tombe. Il en reste assez pour décoller vers 18:00 et gratter les falaises un peu pour 14 minutes de vol. Mirjam a décollé vers 13:00 sans plus de succès, 23 minutes de vol à partir de la Vigie. C'était probablement tenable entre nos vols, malgré la fumée.
August 7th, the smoke is even denser, the mountains on the other side are invisible, and the valley floor is barely visible. I try the 5k launch, given the south-westerly wind. Conditions are good when I arrive, but the wind drops by the time I’m ready. There’s just enough left to launch around 18:00 and ridge-soar the cliffs a bit for a 14-minute flight. Mirjam had launched around 13:00 with little more success, a 23-minute flight from the Lookout. It was probably soarable in the interim, despite the smoke.

6 août, fumée dense, on ne voit pas les montagnes de l'autre côté. Thermiques faibles et quelques forts qui montent bien. Je ne réussi pas un aller-retour et fait 37 km. Hugo fait un aller-retour de 33 km. Robert, de 18 km. Darren et Samuel ont volé en local.
August 6, dense smoke; the mountains on the other side are not visible. Thermals are weak, with a few strong ones rising well. I fail to complete an out-and-return for 37 km. Hugo completes a 33 km out-and-return. Robert does 18 km. Darren and Samuel fly locally.

5 août, encore ciel clair et vent modéré surtout ouest. J'y vais t**d, retenu par des choses à faire et fais plus d'une heure de vol à la montagne avant le coucher du soleil. Plus tôt, Hugo, Mirjam et Samuel font 44, 38 et 17 km. Plusieurs font des vols non déclarés. Beau jour d'été.
August 5th, clear skies again, with moderate winds, mostly westerly. I go late, held up by other things, but manage over an hour of mountain flying before sunset. Earlier, Hugo, Mirjam, and Samuel covered 44, 38, and 17 km, respectively. Several others completed undeclared flights. Fine summer day.

Lundi 3 août, le vent nord est fort. Je sors le delta. Des parapentistes arrivent pour un vol de soirée. Deux autres ont déclaré des vols vers 14:00. Tous les vols sont locaux. Je fais l'andouille en approche et casse le bout de plastique de la latte de bout en touchant le sol en virage. Un atterrissage vent de dos aurait probablement mieux fait, vu sa faiblesse.
Monday August 3, there is a strong north wind. I take out the hang glider. Paraglider pilots are arriving for an evening flight; two others had declared flights around 14:00. All the flights are local. I mess my approach and snap the plastic tip of the tip batten when I touch the ground while turning. A downwind landing would probably have been better, given how light the wind was.

Vendredi 31 juillet, fumée et vent sud-ouest devenant de plus en plus sud-est. Je vois 33 vols rapportés et ceux de plus de 20 km, par ordre de décollage, sont: Quinn 86, Robert 55, Alex B 102, Greg 23, Jason 68, Vladyslav 91, Alex F 93, Trevor 38, Paddy 23, Dominik 29, Antoine 24, Félix 86. Plusieurs sont montés en fin de journée pour des descentes. J'ai pris quelques décollages en caméra. Plus de monde, plus de chance d'incident. Parlant d'incident, on me dit que deux ont atterri dans le marais par vent sud durant le Willi. Si on pense ne pas se rendre, la carrière de gravier est vent de dos et plus facile à atteindre. Aussi, hier, un participant aurait décroché de haut causant une fracture au dos, sans dommage à la colonne vertébrale. Il est à l'hôpital. Son tracé montre un atterrissage sur une haute crête environ 40 km au sud. Les atterrissages aux sommets sont plus risqués. On lui souhaite de se rétablir.
Friday July 31, smoky conditions with south-westerly winds shifting increasingly to the south-east. I see 33 reported flights; those exceeding 20 km, listed by takeoff order, are: Quinn 86, Robert 55, Alex B 102, Greg 23, Jason 68, Vladyslav 91, Alex F 93, Trevor 38, Paddy 23, Dominik 29, Antoine 24, and Félix 86. Several pilots launched late in the day just for a sled. I captured some launches on video. More pilots mean a higher risk of incidents. Speaking of incidents, I heard that two pilots landed in the marsh during a southerly wind during the Willi. If you don't think you'll make it, the gravel pit is easier to reach in a tailwind. Also, a participant reportedly stalled from a bit high yesterday, resulting in a back fracture, though without spinal cord damage. He is currently in the hospital. His track show a landing on a high ridge about 40 km south. Landings on top are more risky. Wish him full recovery.

Jeudi, vent faible sud et ouest, ciel de plus en plus enfumé et une couche de nuages hauts pour finir la journée. J'ai trouvé les thermiques petits et faibles en fin de journée et comme une inversion plus bas que les sommets. Meilleur en après-midi, évidemment. Thursday, light south and west winds, increasingly smoky sky, and a layer of high clouds moving in late in the day. I found the thermals small and weak towards the end of the day, with an inversion below peaks. Conditions were better in the afternoon, of course. Ce mercredi amène le ciel bleu et peu de nuages. Conditions bonnes devenues fortes en après-midi. Tellement que j'ai pris le delta. Le delta est beaucoup plus plaisant dans les conditions fortes. Pas de peur et pas de corrections à faire quand l'air cisaille. Je peux voler plus près et au-dessus des sommets sans frémir. Demain s'annonce aussi bon.
This Wednesday brings blue skies and few clouds. Conditions started out good and became strong in the afternoon, so strong, in fact, that I took the hang glider. There were strong thermals in the right spots and strong sink in between. The hang glider is much more enjoyable in strong conditions; there’s no fear and no need for constant corrections when the air is shearing. I can fly closer to and above the peaks without trembling. Tomorrow looks promising.

Lundi, ciel un peu enfumé et très nuageux avec vent sud au décollage. Marginal sauf avec soleil, certains très bons thermiques. Quarante-sept vols rapportés et les plus de 20 km sont: Quinn, Joël, Brent, Greg and Josiah. Le Willi attire du monde. J'ai gratté côté sud du décollage pour un petit 1:30 de vol.
On Monday, the sky was somewhat hazy and very cloudy, with a southerly wind at launch. Conditions were marginal unless the sun came out, though there were some very good thermals. Forty-seven flights were reported, with flights exceeding 20 km by Quinn, Joël, Brent, Greg, and Josiah. The Willi is drawing a crowd. I scratched around on the south side of the launch for a little 1:30 flight.
