Community Support Request: Beyond Barriers Cooking Program
Helping individuals with diverse abilities build confidence and independent living skills

Dear Community Members, Businesses, and Supporters,
Beyond Barriers Support Society - Golden is seeking community support for our 12-month Cooking Program, an inclusive initiative that helps individuals with diverse abilities develop practical food skills, confidence, and greater independence.

Through hands-on learning, participants will choose affordable and nutritious recipes, prepare grocery lists, compare prices, shop within a budget, practice kitchen safety, follow recipes, prepare meals, and clean up. Activities will be adapted to each participant’s learning style, communication needs, and abilities so everyone can participate meaningfully and progress at an appropriate pace.

Accessible instruction, visual supports, repetition, and guided practice can make everyday food skills more achievable.
With consistent opportunities to learn in supportive kitchen and community settings, participants can strengthen decision-making, budgeting, communication, problem-solving, and their ability to contribute to household routines.

We are asking our community to help us raise $2,400—equivalent to $200 per month for one year. These funds will be used for groceries, recipe ingredients, and essential cooking supplies so participants can practice skills regularly without cost becoming a barrier.
How Your Support Will Help
• Provide ingredients and supplies for regular hands-on cooking sessions.
• Give participants real-world practice in meal planning, budgeting, and grocery shopping.
• Support safe, step-by-step learning in the kitchen.
• Help participants complete more tasks with less assistance over time.
• Build confidence and skills that participants can use at home and in the community.
Ways to Contribute
• Make a financial contribution toward our $2,400 annual goal.
• Sponsor one month of programming for $200.
• Donate grocery gift cards, ingredients, or essential cooking supplies.
• Share this request with local businesses, service clubs, and community networks.

Every contribution, regardless of size, will help create consistent opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities to learn essential food skills in a welcoming and accessible environment.
