The start of a new season is nearly upon us. Opening day is Saturday May 10th. With the new lawn bowling season comes a new website and an updated page. so please check us out and more importantly come join us on opening day for a BBQ and some no stress fun bowling

Opening day this past Saturday was a great success! Over 30 members came out to play in the first fun game of the season and then were able to enjoy a terrific BBQ put on by Michele and her volunteers. The weather cooperates so let’s hope we have a great summer of fun and friendship lawn bowling. Welcome back everyone!!

On a very sad note, on May 31 the Frederick Lawn Bowling Club lost Pat Beggs, after a short illness. He was such an important person in our club, a mentor, a coach, a skilled bowler who always had time for everyone. He was actively involved in the executive of the club for many years as well as being involved in all aspects of lawn bowling in NB through Bowls NB.

His passing has left a big hole in our bowling family and he will be sorely missed.

Despite the weather challenges at times our lawn bowling season is well underway. On May 21 we held our first club tournament of the year, the 3 day President’s Trophy -Fours won by Cheryl, Yves, Janet and Anita

The following week we held the 3 day Lois Graham Mixed Triples Tournament and after spirited competition, the tournament was won by Tim, Doreen and Yves.

That makes Yves two for two so far this year!

The first interclub mixed triples for this season began on June 12 and Fredericton hosted the first day under beautiful sunny skies. This tournament involves teams from both the Moncton and Saint John bowling clubs who play twice at each club every other week for the bulk of the summer. The competition was fierce but always collegial! It’s a great way to visit other clubs and meet other bowlers.

Last week’s excessive heat caused the club to cancel league play on Tuesday and Thursday evening and those games will be made up at the end of the schedule. Regrettably a decision was made to also cancel the Fredericton Invitational scheduled for June 19th. That will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Social bowling takes place on Monday evenings and on Saturday mornings New members or individuals interested in trying bowling out are most welcome to come and give it a go! Coaches are available to help you learn the game.
