Fitness Buzzword Translator
Because apparently “lift weights” wasn’t complicated enough.
Physique
Translation: Your body composition.
Less body fat. More lean muscle.
That’s it.
Biohack
Translation: Trying to make your body perform better.
Sometimes it’s science.
Sometimes it’s a guy on Instagram convincing you that breathing through your left nostril at sunrise will change your life.
Zone 2 Cardio
Translation: Going at a pace you could hold a conversation.
Basically… stop trying to sprint every workout.
Hypertrophy
Translation: Building muscle.
Your muscles have absolutely no idea that’s what it’s called.
Progressive Overload
Translation: Do a little more than you did before.
Revolutionary, I know.
Functional Fitness
Translation: Being strong enough that everyday life doesn’t feel like an Olympic event.
Now for the CrossFit dictionary…
AMRAP
As Many Rounds (or Reps) As Possible.
Translation: You’ll ask how much time is left at least four times.
EMOM
Every Minute On the Minute.
Translation: The clock owns you now.
RX
Doing the workout as it’s written.
Not a medal.
Not a personality trait.
Scaled
Adjusting the workout to match your current ability.
Also known as… smart training.
PR
Personal Record.
Translation: You beat your old self.
Which is the only person worth competing against anyway.
Hero WOD
A workout named in honour of a fallen service member or first responder.
Translation: Bring your grit. You’re going to earn that fist bump.
The fitness industry has made millions by turning perfectly normal ideas into complicated vocabulary.
At CrossFit Exhale, we’d rather explain what we’re doing than make you feel like you need a translator just to work out.

Saying that using assistance to lose fat and regain health by personal trainers is wild to me.
Stating that weight loss aids are unhealthy while participating in a sport that focuses on extreme leanness is pretty hypocritical.
Here’s my take… both can be done safely. BOTH.
As for the just lift heavy and eat the same boring foods every day. Check, check and check. We’re doing them all with the addition of a GLP.
Myself, my fat loss has been consistent and I haven’t lost muscle, in fact I’ve seen an increase in lean muscle growth.
Taking the help while still working just as hard as those that don’t? Fu***ng wild right? 🤯

Over the years we’ve offered discounts to various professions and industries as a way of giving back to our community. While that came from a good place, we’ve realized it doesn’t always align with what we believe our mission should be.
Moving forward, anyone already receiving an existing discount will continue to keep it. However, we will no longer be offering blanket discounts based solely on profession or industry.
Instead, any future discounted memberships will be considered on a case by case basis for individuals or families where cost is a genuine barrier to participation. This includes lower income households, as well as families with multiple active members who continue to support our gym and contribute to the strength of our community through their ongoing membership.
Our goal has never been to decide who deserves affordable fitness based on what they do for a living. Our goal is to make CrossFit accessible to as many people as possible, especially when financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from participating.
Health, strength, and community shouldn’t be determined by a job title. We’d rather direct our support toward those who truly need it and toward families who have made a significant commitment by training together at CrossFit Exhale.
We know this change won’t benefit everyone, but we believe it’s a fairer approach and one that better reflects the values of our gym.
If cost has been what’s keeping you or your family from joining us, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to have that conversation.

CrossFit Teens and CrossFit Kids Fall Session 1 is now full
Thank you for all the support!

The fitness industry loves to sell you the idea that success comes down to willpower.
It doesn’t.
The people who are the most successful with their health usually have something in common. They surround themselves with other people who value their health too.
Research has shown that having accountability and social support can double or even triple your chances of sticking with an exercise routine long term. It makes sense. When the people around you expect to see you, encourage you, and are chasing similar goals, showing up becomes part of who you are instead of another decision you have to make.
That’s one of the biggest reasons CrossFit works.
Not because it’s magic.
Because consistency is easier when you’re not doing it alone.
And before you convince yourself that CrossFit “isn’t for you,” let’s clear something up.
You do not have to be fit to start.
You do not have to know what you’re doing.
You do not have to move like the people you’ve seen on YouTube.
At CrossFit Exhale, every workout is coached. Every movement can be modified. Limited mobility? Old injuries? Chronic pain? Brand new to exercise? We scale every workout to the person in front of us, not the person beside them.
Our members range from people in their teens to people in their seventies. Some are chasing podiums. Others just want to get off blood pressure medication, keep up with their grandkids, or walk up a flight of stairs without feeling exhausted.
Everyone starts somewhere.
If you’ve been waiting until you’re “fit enough” to walk into a CrossFit gym, you’re waiting for the wrong thing.
Walk in first.
The fitness will come later.
Come see what CrossFit is actually about.

When Spencer first walked into CrossFit, he wasn’t the coach.
He was a CrossFit Teens athlete.
Now, at 26 years old with 7 years of youth coaching experience, he’s come full circle, coaching the same program that helped shape him.
There’s something powerful about learning from someone who’s lived it.
CROSSFIT TEENS
Mondays & Wednesdays
3:30 to 4:30 PM
This isn’t about maxing out.
It’s about building exceptional movement from day one.
Your teen will learn the foundations of strength training with squats, deadlifts and bench press, along with a safe, progressive introduction to Olympic weightlifting. Every lift is coached with intention so athletes build confidence before they build weight on the bar.
CROSSFIT KIDS
Mondays & Wednesdays
4:30 to 5:15 PM
Our Kids program is where fitness feels like recess.
Games, relays, obstacle courses, bodyweight movements, kettlebells and dumbbells are all woven together to build coordination, balance, strength, speed and confidence while keeping kids engaged from start to finish.
Fall Session 1 begins the week after Labour Day.
8 Week Session
$265 including GST
Early Bird
$225 including GST when paid in full by September 1.
A $50 non refundable deposit per participant is required to reserve your spot.
Maximum of 14 athletes in each class.
Registration is not confirmed until your deposit or payment in full has been received.
